Similar to DoD?
Also when will the beta start, I'm thinking of getting this game but start school in late August, like the 28th or so and I'm only gonna take a netbook with me to focus on studies.
Also does everyone just love Tripwire? I just feel they are old school, making easy to run games that are just fun not about set pieces and graphics. I probably didn't describe it as well as I should but I have just enjoyed the games they've made a lot more than some more expensive triple A titles.
I think it would be best if you just watched gameplay vids of the original Red Orchestra to get an idea of what RO is all about. Having played DoD for a bit, I won't say that it's similar to it, but there are definitely elements in the game that do appeal to DoD players. (Not sure if that's too vague)

Also I feel like getting this to satisfy my "Battlefield" lust. I mean BF3 doesn't interest me, it's just the setting and the game has changed so much since I liked it that I don't think I'll buy it. This seems like a Battlefield game somehow...
Also I'm trying to watch some videos like this one...

god that interviewer is terrible. His questions are like "So the Marksman is the sniper?" instead of asking what the commander does when shows the classes.
BTW, when if I buy RO1 will that give me a 30% discount on RO2? the 10% preorder + 20% other thing?
it's 10%+10%. So normal version would be $31.99, DDE = $39.99.
I'll put it this way, this is as close as a realistic warfare game you can get without sacrificing fun in favor of realism (like ARMA does). It's really unlike the Battlefield.
I've always said that ARMA is a military sim/realistic war game and battlefield is an arcade war game, while RO is a war game (nicely packed in the middle of both fun and realism). COD is just really a corridor shooter, that's why I don't even bother to put it as comparison. Hope that helps!

RO1/2 are for DOD:S what ARMA2/OP Flashpoint are for CS:S I believe.

Nope, just twenty percent.
I know what video you're talking about. There are some better ones I've seen though. Keep looking and you're sure to find them.
It's kind of like Battlefield in a few ways, and it's kind of like DoD in a few ways, but it's much more realistic and well bleak is what I think RPS called it.
An old tutorial video from when RO Ostfront first came out has a good quote I always remembered. Something like "While other games try to make you feel like you're in a war movie, Red Orchestra tries to make you feel like you're in a war." Course that's not entirely accurate since they leave out the logistics and sitting in trenches crapping your pants but the general attitude of trying to maintain authenticity is very strong.
