This is my first time playing Morrowind, and I would like to know which mods are a "must", or ones which will make the game more up to date without changing too much. I looked at the Overhaul mod, but my system is too dated to handle that. Are there any others?

I had the same problem with the Overhaul. Look around at Planet Elder Scrolls for texture packs and other mods. Not much of an advise, i know.

Oh, before I forget: Better bodies and better heads are great mods.

Yeah I had this game for xbox and just bought it for computer. I'd also like to know what else is a "must have" mod. EDIT: Also is morrowind overhaul or morrowind rebirth better?

I don't know. Never used them. I just downloaded some new texture packs, mesh improvments and other graphical things. Also if i installed them then i would get a constant 15 fps. Yay...

But look around at Planet Elder Scrolls and TES Nexus and get mods you like. And i think you should try Morrowind as it is with no mods.

The great thing about Morrowind is there are no "must"s. And since its a "huge" game and you can mod almost every aspect of it, (and if you are playing for the first time) I recommend playing to level 5 before losing your "mod virginity". By then, you will have a good idea of what needs to be changed or improved. The only mods I can think of as a must are bugfixes. Still, I can recommend some of the mods I use:

Graphics: There are many texture packs out there and small nuances make big differences. So find the one you like best. If you're modding graphics, better bodies and head packs are a must. You can find them in Planet Elderscrolls or Tesnexus. Also, if you are using MGE and distant lands, don't forget grass (and other flora) mods. There's even a mod for rocks.

Gameplay Mechanics: Leveling up gives stomach ache to some people (I'm one of them). BTB and Galsiah are the ones that come to my mind. You can't use them both and I went with Galsiah. Also, there are many mods that overhauls economics, merchants, disposition, alchemy, magic etc. Almost every formula in the game can be changed to your liking.

Additions: Starfires NPC Additions and Morrowind Comes Alive adds NPCs and you can use them both. Morrowind Advanced and Creatures X are two great and lore friendly creature additions. You can also add weapons, clothes, armors, landmasses and quests.

I'm not going into much detail, since there are great mod lists out there. I can recommend 3 of them: This (http://knotstheinane.blogspot.com/p/morrowind-modding-guide.html), this (http://morrowind2009.wordpress.com/) and this (http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1155980-povuholos-tomorrowind-a-mod-recommendations-list-for-today/). You can also find recommended mods lists by googling.

I recommend this guide: http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html

His descriptions are hilarious and he does a great job explaining what each mod does, how it might affect other mods, etc.
