Where the hell is the commander??

OK, so I completed the first proper mission (Where your commander asks you to spy on your mentor) and appeared back in base next to him. We spoke and he said go get ready and come back.

Problem is, I can't remember where he was and I can't find him. I wandered for ages and came across my mentor, but I can't find the commander. Its *so* annoying that the base is so dark - for god's sake they have super high tech but a decent lightbulb is beyond their ability?

There should always be a nav marker directing you to wherever you're meant to go. Rimanah (the commander) is usually in his office, which is to the left of the medical area (and across from the giant bridge leading to missions).

I also suggest getting the cyber vision upgrade at the medical area and binding it to something like Q. It's extremely handy for navigating through dark areas, although be wary of metastreumonic creatures - they barely show up on cyber vision.

if you're clicking on launch temple hq and not solo campaign, then that is your issue. temple hq is for doing side missions and doesn't have the main storyline.

Okay, when You launch at HQ instead of solo campaign, You're on a hallway next to Ain, with a ship launching pod on one end? RImnah's room is on the other end of that hall.

No there was no marker. In the end I quit and restarted, and you start next to him - he was sort of near the medic in some little room.
I had already given up in disgust that day cause I fell from one of the walkways whilst wandering around and got a death penalty for it.
Seriously - the base design is utter FAIL from a gameplay perspective - too dark and filled with insta-death should you stray from a walkway.
