How do I get the TF2 item for my account?

I purchased Quake 4 in a retail box several years ago. So now that there is a bonus item for Team Fortress 2 (The Original, a replacement skin for the soldier's Rocket Launcher), I'd like to know a way that I can claim my item that I deserve. I think it would be so sweet to roll around the TF2 world with my slick old-school shooter.

Should I contact Gabe Newell about this?

I have same problem - Steam does not take retail cd keys of the Quake games for some reason, and i am just as sad as you are.

Once the game is in your list, the items are already in Team Fortress 2 waiting to be selected to be used
