ok just found this website and it made my decision easy..
http://www.steamprices.com/au/app/72850/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim
I wont be buying this game on Steam as we are paying 33% more than US residents even though we are getting the exact same product and downloading it.
US price = $59.99
AU price = $89.99

Steam is my preferred and only game platform, is there a good network of US gifters who can be trusted or is it risky?

Australians are the only ones who complain because our dollar has been at parity or higher than the american dollar for some time now.

They pay by far, the most for games. I can understand their anger at this, and I am quite frankly surprised at your attitude about it. They pay $90 US for the same game we pay $60 US for. It's not even a matter of exchange rates, a lot of companies don't localize prices at all into other markets, that is why other countries besides the US always pay more for it. Tell you what, maybe you should pay an extra $30 for the game, just because. See how long you are stuck doing that before you start singing the same song.

Baresark +1... exactly why Aussies are annoyed.
ozgameshop, is this a trusted shop? Hopefully the game is Steamworks too.

59.99 here is cali, US. I hear a lot of Australian gamers saying 90-100 is natural for them..that sucks

i'm gonna wait
1st reason: i don't care if i can play it ON or before the releasedate
2nd reason: the price is messed up high
3rd reason: the preorder bonus is pathetic
4th reason: i can get a retail copy for as low as 30 Euro's
5th reason: the shop that offers the cheap retail, i trust it and it will prolly have steam keys sooner or later (got DNF from it for 30 euro's too)

Maths was never your strong point was it. We are paying 50% more than US price ($60 * 1.5 = $90), or to put it another way the US are paying 33% less than the AU price ($90 * 0.67 = $60, but I doubt anyone in the US will look at it that way.)

yeah europe price is messed up too we have to pay 50 EURO, which would be around some 65+ (if not 70+) USD i'd reckon, thats why i buy my games from A. Other sellers that sell steam keys or B. wait for discounts.
EDIT: Current EU Price: €49.99
Current US Price $59.99 » €42.38 (-15.22%)
Current EU Price €49.99 » $70.76 (+17.95%)

its 34.99 pounds on game for pc, reduced from 49.99 pounds recomended retail price, although there is a collectors edition at 129.99 pounds for ps3 and xbox and pc. ps3 and xbox versions of the normal game are 39.99 pounds reduced from 54.99 rrp.

hey, I'm just saying that not only Australians are having a getting a bad deal on overpriced games for regional reasons. A ton of games aren't even purchasable in my Asian region, let alone being overpriced, so I just use VPN to get the stuff I want.
There is nothing steam can do about it because regional blockage and pricing is due to the region's agency. So before you complain, just ask a friend to buy it or use VPN it solves all the problems.

It's disappointing that publishers are still doing deals with retailers when digital distribution is the primary distribution method for the industry. And is strikes me as counter-productive, as it just annoys the very people they're trying to appeal to. I was very annoyed about BRINK, even though I actually managed to preorder it on Steam and got to play it without issue. I just hate the publishers are so greedy that they'll pursue business deals that aren't in the interests of consumers.

You can always find out the price in the US by adding "?cc=us" to the end of the URL in a web browser, so the URL for the US price on Skyrim is http://store.steampowered.com/app/72850?cc=us, while the Aussie price is http://store.steampowered.com/app/72850?cc=au (uk, de, fr, nz all work too). You can't use that URL to buy it (it's IP locked), but you can use it to check if you're being ripped off.
$60 US, $90 AU. Seriously - that's messed up. It costs no more for Steam to serve it to Aussies than it does to serve it to Americans so what is the price difference all about? I could understand 10% GST, so $66, but there's absolutely no good reason for the $90. The "bad" reason is to not undercut local bricks-and-mortar vendors, but frankly I don't give a damn.
Anyway, if you want it for AUD 50, just go to http://www.cdwow.com.au/games/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-pc/dp/19928909. You won't get it launch day, but it's never been more than a week for me. Play-Asia is usually pretty good as well.

Just wanting to add my voice to the choir - ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN WHO WILL NOT BE BUYING AT RIP-OF PRICES.
Hey publishers - your system is not working, get with the times if you want more money. Dropping your prices may actually get you more customers - crazy but true.
I was looking to buy this game too, but at that rip off price I think I'll get it through other means.
