I know you guys are too busy by fixing bugs and balancing gameplay at the moment and it's a bit early to deal with such things, but I would like to ask you if you have been thinking about some future development of EYE. I mean, do you have some possible plans, some ideas, things you would like to aditionally add to the game? And if there is something like that, does this depend on game success and sales numbers?
Or are you more like: "Lets release the game in it's final version and then move on (to another project possibly)."
I wouldn't like to sound that this second option is the bad one. It looks you are doing your best so far (communicating with customers, fixing the game...). Additional content or functionality is truly welcome, but it definately isn't some kind of necessary politeness or commitment resulting from purchasing the game, as someone could interpreted.
Despite the fact, that I regret buying the game a bit AT THE MOMENT and unfortunatelly I can't recommend it to my friends RIGHT NOW, I am looking forward to play it after the patch will come out and I also think that the game has a big potential. EYE has interesting universe, detailed character customization, some sophisticated gameplay mechanics (some of them work good, some shoud be fixed/changed), cool special abilities, huge universal levels, nice weapons etc.
Many ideas for additional content has been already mentionet, like PVP. I personally would really like to see some kind of deathmatch (Parts of maps can be relatively easily changed to smaller arenas I quess). But when comes to multiplayer my imagination goes even further (and I suppose I am not alone). I see the factions fighting against each other on those large maps, trying to reach some objectives and while they're succesfull the battlefield moves to another objective. In brief something like Battlefield or Brink. I realize the problems and complications which arise with competitive multiplayer (you shouldn’t be able to use your SP characters and other restrictions are needed), so I consider those imaginations as kind of Sci-fi right now, but it’s nice at least to think about it. The point is that there is a lot of potential.
I am pretty sure you will not have enought time and strength to fulfill all players (maybe even yours) wishes, so considering releasing SDK should be the first thing you do after the game itself will be fixed. Thanks to map's universality, everybody can surely imagine many differend scenarios and possible moddifications or additions. What’s more the game is text based so modders don’t need voice actor, there aren’t any complicated scripts or animations, so creating mods should be quite easy. Here comes to mind an officialy supported community content - someone creates something good, so you can implement it to the game.
What I fear the most is that the game success comes to grief on poor initial release (which implicates bad reviews, lost of confidence in developers...) and inaccessibility/nonintuivity of gameplay mechanics (lots of players give up the game at the beginning although they could actually like it).
But if finally turns out that the game is really good, a free weekend at Steam can make all the difference. And I would say that free weekend is actually better then demo, since the game is complicated and it takes some time until a player comes to game's taste (and become addict hh). I also believe that the true EYE's value comes with replayability and multiplayer. But it can be only my opinion.
And the last but not least, if you are going to support the game somehow in the future, you should definately create official forum.
I wish you good luck and I hope for reply.
And sorry for my Anglish.
