I love-love-love recettear. I'm currently on merch 30+ in endless and loving it!
So how is this game? Looks great from the screenshots. Does it tie in with Recettear at all?
AND NO SPOILERZ PLEASE! :D
Thanks all

Chantelise was supposed to be out first just so you know so no connection but I do believe it's in the same world as Recettear.
THere is a book you can sell btw in Recettear named "A tale of two sisters" with the caption "Shouldn't this have been out already?" I think it's a reference to this game!
To answer your other question...it's great ofcourse but it has nothing to do with selling and debts there is a demo you should try it. It's pretty much a dungeon crawler but it can be surprisingly difficult...to me anyways. Has the charm of Recettear but know that it's a completely different type of game.

Try the demo if you want, it's a decent game but not for everyone. Though I will say you should not use the term hentai to generalize japanese games. It would be like calling all video games porn.

I guess we can list pros/cons versus Recettear's adventuring mode. Some points will be objective and others will be subjective.
Pros:
- Level design is significantly better
- Action is faster paced
- Less repetition
- Music is better
- More imaginative boss fights
- Unique and dynamic magic system
- Higher genuine difficulty
Cons:
- The low health beeping noise
- Doesn't look as polished as Recettear
- Camera can be hard to control (Gamepad recommended)
- A fair chunk shorter
- No selectable characters
All in all, while many comparisons are obvious, Chantelise plays more like Ocarina of Time than Recettear's adventuring mode.

This game came out before Recettear and there are significant connections between the two : The Archdevil, the different trinkets you pick up and the elemental crystals are all pretty much direct connections between the two. There are also a few shoutouts to Chantelise in Recettear, but you need to pay attention to pick it up :D
They are also separate genres, so we shouldn't be going about comparing the two, they are not in the same category.
C. Banana also gave a pretty strong review on the pros and cons, just remember : the only thing connecting this and Recettear is the story and shoutouts, NOT the game itself.

Mawile, Recettear came out AFTER Chantelise, so that shouldn't be surprising :p

Chantelise seems more like a standard RPG from what I've seen. Is this correct? or is there something that sets it appart?

What stands out to me about Chantelise versus another action RPG would be its higher level of difficulty and the magic system. There's also no experience points.

1 thing I hate in this game is the buttons you have to press to dodge.
Jump+any side at the same time makes it a gamble if you dodge or it ends up that Im only jumping.

I recommend it if you love Recettear.
I only played 3 hours because that camera is HORRIBLE and makes the game very hard, I will try it again if I get a gamepad...
