View Full Version : Will there be cut and uncut versions?

I just noticed that after preorder, my account page says "Skyrim (DE)", indicating that Steam has a separate German version in its inventory. Normally that only happens when they have to cut out decapitations or similar for the German market. Any word on other stuff that might be cut?

Just a question, but was Oblivion censored at all in germany? i know FO3 may have been due to the gore, but oblivion never had anything to the extent of fo3.
I wouldnt expect Skyrim to be censored in Germany

Yes, Oblivion had some blood splatter removed, including from books. Not much though. But if they added blood effects to Skyrim because they would be more realistic, that's exactly what would be cut. (It's not technically censorship - it's not the government preventing them from presenting blood, it's themselves wanting to be able to sell to more than just the adult market).
FO3 was heavily cut. Detachable body parts are a big no-no. If they added that because every game has it these days...
I personally don't care to be honest. I don't need huge amounts of blood or body parts flying around. I'm more worried about being locked in to the German language as it is the case with Fallout 3.

If Steam knows anything about Skyrim might ending up cut, then they would have written something above the Preorder button, they normally do that with other games.
To my knowledge Oblivion was mostly uncut, except for a single book with some weird symbols and a little bit of blood in it, after the cut it would simply read something like this: As you open the book, symbols seem to move around. At least something like that.

Seriously? it's an only german version? I mean its nice for those who dont understand english that well, but the original language should still be available i think.

I don't know that yet for Skyrim but it's true for FO3 and FONV and a small number of other games. There's normally a warning on the store page, though.
Oblivion wasn't affected but my Steam version of it also doesn't have a (DE) tag.

That's probably because of the censored version only being for Germany. The standard (multi-language) version is not cut. It's almost a whole other game.

A word of warning. I got burned with Call of Duty: Black Ops a while ago. It was locked to German language only although the store page stated that it is available in English...
Some said that the language could be changed by right clicking on the game in the library and selecting properties. However the tab "Languages" was missing. I had to play it in German because there was no way to change it.
That's exactly the reason why I won't buy it on Steam although I like Valve very much... I hope that I can add the retail key to Steam later.
