I have just finished leveling my first character, and I have made another one. I'm going to put their ability points into two classes each, so I'll get all the classes. Ex. soldier/engineer and medic/operative. So I'm just wondering what combinations are the most useful/practical. Any advice would be appriceated, thank you.

My current setup is Engineer/Operative on a medium frame. My other character is Soldier/Medic.

I think Medic / Soldier and Operative / Engineer sound pretty good. My main character is Medic / Soldier and I like it. I don't think it matters much, though.

Edit: I didn't purposely switch your combinations, Dusty33, as I hadn't seen your post when I was making mine, but that is pretty funny.

So the best combos are soldier/medic and engineer/operative?

I did medic/engineer, for no good reason other than i needed someplace else to put my medic points. Definitely works well though.

Also, what's the max level?

Also, what's the max level?

24 with DLC, 20 without it.

I personally love a heavy op, you just don't expect your "teammate" to pull out a heavy MG and gun you away.

I play engineer with key skills from other classes sprinkled in. The secondary class I tend to play is medic, so obviously my choice would be Engineer/Medic and Soldier/Operative if I had two characters and split 4 classes among them. That way my mindset would be defensive character (Eng/med) and offensive character (Soldier/Op).

I almost always use medic as my second class that way when there is a lack of medics I can quickly switch over. I have an Engineer/medic, Soldier/medic, Medic/Operative.

Soldier / Medic almost seems redundant. Long-term support for your team means health and ammo. Operative provides no direct buffs, and the engineer has so many abilities you almost don't want to buff your teammates. Seems a split between the others seems best, but Soldier / Medic while levelling is almost unfair in how fast it acrues XP.

i'm only leveling up my first character at the moment, medium body build. but to me logically, i feel that a medium soldier / engineer sounds optimal for my playstyle. i feel that engineers need that extra health cushion for defuses/repairs which they will be doing a LOT of, and for soldiers, that extra health will help keep you on the front lines for a longer period of time.

for my next character, i'm gonna create a light, and obviously, the two classes will be medic and operative. this makes sense to me because medic should be quick enough to get revives to downed members as fast as possible, wherever they may be, as well as tossing out buffs to people all over the place. operatives will take advantage of speed as well to get faster marks on enemies, mines, and to sneak past enemies for hacking objectives and CP stealing/upgrading. i can see the extra health of a medium build coming in to use for ALL classes, but i feel that speed and the ability to get from point a to point b as quickly as possible is more important for these two.

Keep in mind that once the character is level 7 you can switch his body type whenever you want in the character customization screen so you aren't stuck and can try the feel of all of them on the same class combination.

So what happens when your using your Medic/Engineer class and mid-way through a match, the objective calls for operatives to hack but there are no ops on your team? You guys just hope that other players become ops while you provide protection?

Cause from personal experience, this happens too often. That being said, I only have one character which I have tried to distribute the abilities evenly among the 4 classes.

Generally speaking both repair objectives and hack objectives have you holding F the whole time or waiting for the hack to complete and as such won't really have need for all the class specific abilities. This makes it so that even if you don't have points in those 2 classes doing their objectives still isn't too big a stretch. For both these objectives types it is generally more effective to have your team defending you than to have to switch to a weapon and defend yourself.

Soldier objectives, once the thing is planted you are free to run around, shoot, throw grenades use abilities while you run around or defend during the countdown. Medic objectives you are escorting and aren't stuck holding the F key and are also free to use your class specific abilities.

If you do it right you can get the most important abilities for 3 classes plus the first page for all of them. I say skip medic [everyone rolls them] and put points into soldier/engineer/operative. Especially with the DLC for more points. It's very easy to skip the not as usefull abilities and go the more important ones.

My setup

Universal
-------------
Combat intuition
Battle Hardened
Supply max increase
Sprinting reload
sprinting grenade
re-supply rate increase

6 ability points

Soldier
----------------
Armor piercing ammo
Flashbang grenades
Kevlar vest
Grenade Damage
Frag blast

5 ability points

Engineer
--------------
Gear Head
Improved weapon buff
light turret
medium turret
extra landmine

5 ability points

Operative
------------------
Comms hack
Homing beacon
claptrop grenades
emp grenades
UAV [handy when you want to break a lime of defence, use it fly into them blow it up then rush in there asap while their all on the floor and kill them, very situational. If you use it anymore your just wasting time. Feel free to drop it for a extra point.]

5 ability points

Total 21 points 3 points free

That's what I'm using at the moment, you have everything you need to play the objective in any situation. I'm still leveling with the dlc but i will probably place my last 3 points in these [depending on what i prefer]

Operative
----------
Sticky bomb [great of booby trapping doorways]
hack turret [haven't ever tried it, turrets are pretty weak anyway so 50/50]

Engineer
-----------
Pyro mine [yet to try]
gatling turret [see hack turret]
command post upgrade [if you play engi this is a must have above all else, if you actually want to help your team that is]

Soldier
------------
Napalm grenades [yet to try]
Satchel charges [ 50/50] situational theres better abilities to be honest.

engineer command upgrade is one of the most amazingly awesome helpful abilities you can get, helps the team like no other, I probably won't get it though as I only usually use engineer when my team isn't playing the objective or are being idiots.

Mastering these 3 classes using this rough ability layout, you will help your team out a lot. UAv in the main section is the only thing i would drop everything else is a must, so you can play with the 5 points to your liking.

Meh my 2c
