Sudden MEGA LAG

I was playing at maximum settings smoothly since... I met the Giant Worm... From this level on the game, even on lowest settings lags, audio lags, fps are like photograms.... So suddenly... I fear I cannot complete again for the third time this game on my new pc... (On the old one it worked flawlessly till the end... :confused:

is the lag only when you meet the worm and the rest of the story or do you have now the lag in the whole game (also at the beginning)?

do both pc's have the same OS?

From Worm on, I played flawlessy at max settings before... My old pc had win XP, this one have win 7 64 bit...

It might be because of the OS but since other people have it working an Windows 7 64bit too, I guess its a hardware problem (I dont say its too weak, dark messiah just seems to have problems with lots of different hardware).

Steam version, from worm on, even on lowest settings possible the game lags, before the worm I had all settings to the max without a single fps drop... I tried to restore file by steam, but didn't work

PS: Dunno if it can be useful, but when my character dies fps are normal :|

I dont know if it will be of any use but you can try using different graphic settings when the problem occurs.

You can also start the game with the parameter -console and take a look in the console window when you get the problem (there will be probably some default errors that everyone gets but maybe you get something additional).

Another half legal and exhausting thing would be this: Look in the internet for the dvd version and download it. then install the dvd version and try it out there, some users reported that they had no lag anymore but their problem was constant lag not lag after a specific point so maybe it wont work.

edit: you can also try skipping the level with the worm from the console (if you have no problem with skipping something), simply look what the next level is and type it in the console "map ***".
when you have no lag then there is a good chance that the worm is responsible for the problem (not directly the worm but the combination of the worm and your hardware or something like this. unfortunately it is difficult to solve problems with the dropped support)

Have you actually gotten past the worm? I can remember something about the worm's texture and the HDR in the source engine screwing up so they had to change something about it. If you turn off HDR it might run smooth, then turn it back on after the worm.

Seems like the worm messed up the game... I ran past him (with noclip cheat) but also after having charged the next stage, it still lags... I'll try the map thingy

PS: Console doesn't give any error of some sort....
