Yeah.
Read some reviews etc, but wanted to know if anyone here knew this somehow.
If its a bad PC port or not etc.

I've heard from a friend that it's all in all a fun game to play around with and that it's well worth $15. If I was you I'd just wait a few more days since it's released soon anyway. They'll have PC-specific reviews out before you know it.

PC version has terrible terrible issues at the moment.

DRM - Ubisoft specifically stated several times that you need to be online to play the game only once. Turns out they meant once every time you start up the game. Once started than you can disconnect, but to launch the game you need to be connected first.

Secondary Launcher by Ubisoft, uPlay - Linked very closely to the DRM problem above, this is the one getting me atm. After starting up Steam and launching From Dust the game will also launcher uPlay, Ubisoft's version of Steam. Pretty much all the same bells and whistles that you have with Steam, but you are forced to go through them at least once every time you start up the game.

Video Settings and FPS - For some reason the game seems to be capped at 30fps for most people, even those with high end systems. Now not everyone is even irritated by this since not everyone is a visual ♥♥♥♥♥ with $2000+ systems. Unfortunately Ubi seems to have forgotten to put in video setting options for the PC port. Again. Every game they've ported to PC so far has had video settings done in a out of game launcher they usually added on much later.

Controls - The least common complaint is the mouse controls seems to throw off a number of people. If you have a controller you can hook up to the PC than great, if not than you may or may not find the mouse controls a bit irritating. Get a Logitech USB controller for something like $15 and it will work for 95% of the controller styled games out there. In fact there are a few games out there that seem to be just better if you go out of your way to play with a controller.

Other than all that it's a fairly fun game I hear. I haven't gotten a chance to play yet despite looking for a solution for the last two hours.

DRM and UBIsoft thing are really not an issue.

Yes video settings seem capped at 30 fps but it does not come over laggy or anything is very smooth so no issues with that really.

Mouse controls are not the best but after a few lvls you will get used to it.

As I stated before in my opinion the game is well worth what they are asking for, but if for some reason you hate DRM systems, or your not always able to be connected to the internet then yeah its best to skip this...

DRM is an issue. First of all, we were lied to, and we do have to login every single ♥♥♥♥ing time we start the game. Second, maybe it's just me, but the ♥♥♥♥ing thing doesn't remember me when I tell it to do so.

Shame on you, Ubisoft. I was looking forward to this game, and for some other of your upcoming titles. Now I'll wait for this uplay ♥♥♥♥ to be removed from them.

I'd love to tell you From Dust is a good game.

That would require me to be able to run the damn game.

It won't even go to the ♥♥♥♥ing menu.

Yes ok the DRM is annoying it will prob get patched out soon but its there for a reason..

It remembers my details no problem..

This i suppsoe is a bit annoying as i have to laucn hfrom steam and then launch again from the ubi thing.. not the end of the world tho.

It also does not distract from this being a decent game and for £12 well worth it.. yes there are a few issues..

Controls a bit odd but you get used to them
No graphics options, also 30fps cap but this really dont make a difference.

Probably be patched out soon? Splinter Cell: Conviction still has the same DRM... It hasn't seen a patch for it's broken state in over a year.

The Ubi thing isn't a problem so much as it is an annoyance and an unnecessary one for a terrible service (See: RSGS)

Controls are a bit odd? How about absolutely sub-standard and incoherent for anything short of a modern controller?

No graphics options? I've survived this... but the 30 FPS cap? No difference? How long have you been PC Gaming? The day a 30 FPS cap becomes acceptable rather than 50-60FPS (depending on your region) is the day I turn in my keyboard and mouse and buy an Xbox 360 controller. Even the Bulletstorm port had the common courtesy to give us graphical options (limited as they were) and an uncapped frame-rate. The Force Unleashed (2) both had a 30FPS hard-cap (stupidly and it detracted significantly from PC gameplay) and still allowed minimal graphical options.

I'm playing on a PC here. Not a 5 year old GPU roughly equivalent in power to an NVIDIA 7900 GS with 512MB of shared system RAM on a tri-core CPU that could be outpaced by a typical Core 2 Duo.

I have an expectation of work to be put in. Not work to be slapped together out of a console release - and post-dated after the release on console to boot. You know why? Because I'm a PC gamer and I don't stand for substandard products (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1850437).

Yea? What reason is that? The game was cracked immediately and being pirated on release day. DRM can't fail much harder than that.

Publishers don't react to reality, truth, fact, or reasonable explanations, they react to when a hand is missing out of the constant circle jerk they attend.

30 fps on a 120hz monitor is rage-inducing. I've not been able to play simply because the low fps is giving me a headache.

Remember the classic game Populous? It's like that, minus all the features and fun.

I got bored after a couple hours. There is nothing to do.

I had the same problem. It got hellaciously boring after the first few levels.

Now, admittedly, I didn't do enough research, and thought this was more of a sandbox, town-building kind of game where instead of actually building the town, you just controlled the elements...

But still, even after accepting the fact that I was wrong about that, and didn't get what I wanted at first, I still had trouble really enjoying the game.

My biggest problem was probably the simple fact that you spent each level doing basically the same thing, except having one new, small feature included.

The entire game IS the tutorial, by the way. Once you learn how to use every feature, you've already beaten the game.
