Unable to run in fullscreen mode with effects enabled

Hi

iMac7,1 running Lion 10.7.1 on an ATI HD2600 video controller.

I'm unable to run the game full screen with the effects switched on. Full screen works fine with effects off, and windowed mode works fine with them on.
