View Full Version : Will there be a patch?

I bought the game not realizing that it would have the insufferable always online UBI DRM. I'm not gonna seek a refund because I hate Steam's customer service, and I actually like the game.
This is my first UBI purchase in a long long time on PC. My questions is, does UBI have a history of patching and fixing their broken games?
Does anyone think it's likely they will fix the following:
-30 fps cap
-Lack of graphical options
-Terrible mouse and keyboard controls (not holding my breath)
-General bad performance on a powerful PC
I know that UBI has removed their constant online DRM from some other games in the past, so hopefully they will do the same here, but I doubt it.
Such a shame to have this technically amazing game is ruined by a short sided piece of ♥♥♥♥ publisher.
Thanks.

??? Runs fine on my machine and it isn't even that high-end. Why is everyone getting so hung up on graphics options? Yeah, it'd be nice to see slightly sharper edges to rocks or slightly better reflections or something like that but is it really that important that it ruins your gaming experience? :( Why even play games then, why not just look at photographs of great sights around the world, or even better, go out and experience the real world in all its HD glory
EDIT: Sorry if I seemed off topic but I was trying to point out that the game isn't "broken" in my eyes and so there is no need for UBI to provide a patch.

QFT, same here
Still, I'd very much like to see a control revamp.
I've finished the game, and I loved it, but it would be sweet to have a better control scheme. Control camera with WASD and the Breath with the mouse, with optional edge scroll? *cough*blakc&white*cough*

Thank you for not contributing anything of value to my questions. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about graphics! I play Dwarf Fortress ffs! What I want are options to enable/disable certain features. Maybe I don't want the overly bright bloom that makes the game look overexposed for example.

I'm actually lost for words after reading your post. Please go back to your Xbox 360 or whichever console you play on, because you sure as hell aren't a PC gamer as you do not care about the most basic yet incredibly important features that every PC game should have.
XD The last console I owned was a sega megadrive! Sooo the most important thing about games is the graphical capability and not, say..gameplay oor.. innovative design?
Please don't misrepresent me, I'm not saying all games should be pixelated and basic. I'm saying if a pixelated game is fun, don't think it's broken just because it isn't using the latest NvidiaAtari-MegaUltraSuperDrive502300 (now with added bull♥♥♥♥). Yes, graphics can be amazing, engaging, inspiring and can greatly enhance certain gaming experiences.
But I don't agree for a second that they are the be all and end all of gaming, computer or otherwise.

Sorry, I thought you were hating on the game's graphics. It didn't occur to me that you were talking about things like bloom options so my apologies for that.

Most important thing about a game is it being playable. This game is clearly not playable for most of the PC gamers.
BTW Stop using childish smileys like "XD". It's just plain stupid.

Remember when games were about having fun?

Have a look at that!
- Horrible screen resolution!
- Low resolution textures!
- Stereo-only sound, no support for EAX or anything!
- FPS-locked to hell and back!
- NO vsync!
- Absolutely no anti-aliasing!
- Extra aliasing smeared on top of every corner just for the ♥♥♥♥ of it (or so it looks).
- Low enemy variation, not even palette swapped FFS!
- 2D levels using what basically amounts to a "mind hack" to present itself in 3D.
- Static shadows (if any).
- So short some people have finished it in under 20 minutes! (Takes practice to do that fast, but still!!)
- Sold at the full price, and marketed as a "triple-A" game!
The thing is... That games is fun as hell!
So yeah, I'd like to see some tweak-able knobs, but I love the gameplay of this game, and had fun playing it. That is what games are for in my world.

That's exactly what we're talking about, not just bloom but things like AA, shadows, texture quality and so on. Those are vital for a PC game and there is no excuse for a company to not include them and what you said made it sound like those features aren't important, sorry if I misunderstood you.
Anyway I don't see how anyone can defend this game, not only does it have a 30fps cap, poor controls and no graphics options but Ubisoft flat out lied and said there wouldn't be any always online DRM.
Yes yes yesyesyes we all know Ubisoft lied about the DRM issue. Now they're offering a refund. But we're talking about the graphics and no I still don't think those things are important to a GAME. Notice the word game there, not photo, not painting, not tech demo, game. In my reply to frenchy35 I simply meant that I agree it might be nice to have a few things to simply switch on and off like shadows or bloom but it doesn't mean I would throw my rattle out of the pram for them, neither do I think that the lack of these options requires a fix, merely that it might be nice to have them.
On a different note, I'm really intruiged as to why you think stuff like AA or shadows is "essential" to pc games (I'm not being petulent, I'm genuinely curious about your stance on this). Don't you ever buy games that don't have these things?
I agree whole heartedly with DemmyDemon.

Also I thought your comment about Doom not having locked FPS was hilarious! XD

I don't give a damn how fun a game is
And you acuse me of not being a pc gamer? Seriously why do you even play games and come to game forums? Surely you'd be happier on a techie website?

Jesus, this post isn't about having a graphics vs gameplay argument. Some games benefit from having high fidelity graphics, and in others, the graphics contribute nothing to the experience. Should we also have an HD sound vs 8-bit sound debate? No one seems to be up at arms about whether good audio can make or break a game experience.
Anyways, could we please get back on topic? My questions was:
Does anyone know if UBI has a history of patching and fixing the issues I mentioned in the original post?
Thank you.

Yeah but at least it didn't had locked FPS.
What are you smoking?
I played with Doom/Doom2 hacking a lot, making custom WADs and playing with deHacked (or whatever it was called) to make custom weapons and stuff. When I got a brand new Pentium 90MHz I decided to track down the code for it and unlock the FPS just to see how far it'd go.
The game is actually timed by FPS, and capped at 30 (if memory serves), so at 60FPS it ran twice as fast, 120 four times as fast etc.
I could use my P90 as a space heater with 100% CPU usage, and at 200FPS Doom is unplayable because if you just THINK about the movement keys you're across the map.
Not FPS locked? You bet your sweet ♥♥♥ it was!
On topic?
Oh, yeah, the patching...
Ubi have been pretty good about patching some of their high-profile games, and with the DRM lies (BOOO!!! I love the game, but will NOT forget lies in a hurry!) this has become pretty damn high-profile.
I'm hoping for controls patching at a minimum.

Are people actually defending this?
The port is terrible, half the time the menu doesn't even work (I just get the backround and have to restart it) Then when i'm in the game it runs at a SOLID 22 fps that jerks around to 15 everytime I move the camera.
I tried to change the resolution and the game crashs. You can't play in windowed mode because the cursor goes off the screen.
I'm guessing this is what happened
Developer: Ubisoft we need several more months because of issues we are having with porting the game.
Ubisoft: Yea but we want money.
Developer: oh.
and now look what happens. Stop defending a broken game.

Thanks. Hopefully they take care of what is really a short list of major issues. It's unfortunate how no one is talking about how amazing the tech is for this game. When was the last time anyone saw water physics, and terrain deformation this good in any game?
PS. Someone already made a hack to unlock the FPS to 120. It really improves the game. The game feels so much more responsive.
"There's a fan made patch to unlock FPS, though (nothing official, but it works):

Sorry, got drawn in, my bad. I geniunely have no idea whether Ubisoft releases regular patches but I would assume that a major company like them would at least fix any major issues or they would have gone out of business years ago. Then again, this is an indie game so not really sure if it'll ge the same support.
Sorry again for hijacking the thread.:(

Ubisoft is a mixed bag of tricks in regards to patching. Some of their games never receive patches.
GSC Game World creators of the Cassacks series created a game called Alexander which they published in 2004.
A patch was released to fixed game breaking problems (like the game not starting) Ubisoft never released it in English. Denying they ever received a patch while GSC saying they gave them the patch.
That is the example that sticks in my head the most.
So if you are looking for Ubisoft to support the game? Pray they actually release the patch.

I'm actually starting to think you're a troll, or maybe just plain stupid.
I am not talking about the quality of graphics, why the hell do you think graphics options are important in PC games? do you think every PC gamer has an uber powerful rig that will max out every single game at a million fps that will ever be made?
We all type before we think things through sometimes.
Okay last post then I'm gone:
I did speak without thinking, sorry Phrix89 I can actually see why you'd think I was trolling. I don't talk about games online much and I just really liked From Dust so I decided to find the forum and see what other people thought and I fairly quickly got agitated with the amount of negative comments. I forget that other people may not have decent computers and that to them this game would be a waste of money. Apologies once again for any frustration caused on my part, I don't think I'm cut out for this forum lark :(

Most people never even come close to apologizing, they just put up their defenses and fight people who disagree with them, so you're doing much better than most forum users worldwide. :D
