Hi All,

Just wondering what you think about me buying it for single player gaming, is it worth it or is the game mainly a multiplayer game, racing people online and how does it compare to say Toca Race Driver 3?

Kind Regards,
Gunner

You can do a lot of single player gaming with RACE 07 (R07). There is a Championship that you can set up with whatever cars and tracks you want, set your race limits (laps or timed), single or two race format, number of AI drivers.... a whole slew of things you can set.

But..... MP really is where it's at. Racing the AI just does not compare to racing real people online. All you really need is a thick skin to get through some of the open server pickup races (to get experience) and then find a good group to race with.

It can work pretty well for a single player game. You can set up your own championships, and you can download heaps of mods and tracks to drive on.

It's not as good as ToCA in the career mode department (because there is no career mode), but it's heaps better in everything else.

I have played ToCA for about an hour, I think? Bought it on sale, only because it had V8 Supercars and Australian tracks.

Looked pretty decent, the career mode, the telemetry... But then I tried a V8 Supercar on Bathurst. I broke Murphy's 7 year old Bathurst record. By 5 seconds. On my first lap.
That, combined with the fact that the general driving experience was pretty poor, meant that it was a wasted couple of €.

I am racing in the open server pick up's and brother, do you need a thick skin, as you say.It is my first venture into racing online; although I have been playing racing games (mostly sim's)for about14 years!. It certainly is an eye opener. School of hard knocks is what it is!. Still great fun though...should have made the move years ago.

You should consider joining a racing community, with passworded servers, rules, admins, and polite people who race clean and fair.

Im abit confused. What do I need to get to have all the content made for Race07. All the different packs are confusing. Do i get Race 07 and then the individual dlcs, or do i get the GTR Evolution Complete and then the other dlcs? Also will the Xbox 360 wireless controller for windows work well with this?

What it is right, it's like this:

RACE 07 is your base game. Everything else is an expansion of that game, or in modern day lingo "DLC".

So, for the complete package, tis thus:

RACE 07

- GTR Evolution
- Race On
- GT Power Pack
- RETRO

- STCC: The Game
- STCC: The Game 2

- WTCC: 2010

- Formula RaceRoom Add-On
- Andy Priaulx Crowne Plaza Raceway

Green = Original expansions
Orange = Latest expansions
Pink = Free Add-ons

On Steam, the most efficient way to go about aquiring everything is to buy the:

RACE On Bundle (RACE 07, STCC: The Game, Race On) (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2277/)

GTR Evolution Expansion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/8660/)
STCC: The Game 2 Expansion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/44620/)
GT Power Pack Expansion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/44650/)
RETRO Expansion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/44660/)
WTCC 2010 Expansion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/44670/)

Go here to get the Andy Priaulx Crowne Plaza Raceway (http://store.steampowered.com/app/8670/) free track.

Go here to get the Formula RaceRoom Add-on (http://www.raceroom.net/games/race-07-formula-raceroom/) F1 car and Hockenheimring track pack, by registering for a free RaceRoom membership with SimBin.

HTH :)

PS - Yes a Windows XBOX Controller does work with the game and is customiseable as far as I have seen. However, the game is really a sim, and as such, designed for precision control with wheel and pedals.

Thank you so much, your post is a life saver!
Yea, I understand that a wheel is the best thing for racing sims.
I used to race a lot of sims back years ago with wheel and pedals. Unfortunately i don't have access to the space or money for one now. So I bought the Xbox 360 Wireless controller last night. I've had some experience with it on racing games like Race Pro on the 360 and it works surprisingly well. So until i have a desktop PC again and the money for a wheel it'll have to do. :) Its a good challenge to try to master the sim without aids with the controller anyway.

Anyway thanks again for the help! Im ordering those now. :D

That sounds civilized...could you please recommend a few communities; for a keen, ready to behave, old geezer like myself.
My lap times (when I can get a few laps in before being shunted) are fairly respectable and my highest placing in one of the few races I have managed to get to the end of, was 3rd, (a minor miracle).
Any, thanks in advance for any help.
Pete.

I spend my time at http://www.racedepartment.com, but I rarely do Race events, mostly nKPro, GTL and RBR.

I have heard of http://www.race2play.com/ , but that's about it. I haven't ventured much beyond RD. Maybe someone else has more recommendations.

One more question. Do i just run Race 07 to access all the expansions content or do i need to run the expansions individually?

Everything installed runs in any version of RACE 07. Some of them will have different intros and menu skins, but all your content will be available regardless of which game you start up!

Yes, Race2Play is a good place to start. It is a mix of "anyone-can-sign-up" race series to groups you must join who use their site. They have a whole list of race series for all the RACE 07 cars (EVO GT's, Radicals, Formula Masters, Formula RaceRoom, WTCC, etc.)

I've run in a few myself. They usually have "track marshals" watching the race, which is pretty cool.

A good group is hard to come by unless your only interest is WTCC; there are plenty of those. If your interest leans more towards the GTR:EVO or Formula stuff, the pickin's are mighty slim indeed. RaceRoom online has a page with links to various sites of racer clans, but too many of them go to rFactor only sites and some of them have nothing to do with race gaming at all (advertisers who sneak in pretending to be a race clan). The site admins are in the process of cleaning it all up (they say....). Others have some listing for EVO or other races, but haven't done anything since 2010 or earlier (EX: war gamer clan that ran some races a few years back, but are done with it now and are back to playing FPS's).

Getting your own group going is harder still. I myself have a forum (dormant) with plans of running a GT series, a Formula series and an LMP (Le Mans Prototype) series each year. But there are no LMP's for RACE 07, so the plan was to use Radical SR4 252's until an in-the-works mod of them is finished. It kinda' fell by the wayside when my ISP changed things and I can only sometimes run my dedicated server without lag.

Anyway, the open servers: a good place to practice racing with others. I use them to do just that. I never plan on even trying to win; that's not why I'm there. The middle of the pack is a great place to be to learn racing with other people and not shunting them. Sure, you'll get shunted (it IS part of racing), but it's so much better if you aren't the one doing the shunting.

Good luck. Maybe I'll see you on an open server somewhere!! If so, say hi!

Danger we are a group of 40+ year olds who race clean. The requirement is you have to have a sense of humor otherwise you are banned. If you can speak English and are cool PM me for details. And anyone else that wants to race online in a non threatening environment. We have drivers of all skill levels. We like racing the muscle cars the best. Modern and retro pack.
