View Full Version : CS:GO SDK?
Hello,
I would prefer an answer from someone at valve. But here others can speculate also.
Valve has always put out an ASK for maps, and models.
But, and I highly doubt, will they also release the base so we can program custom mods? =D
I WOULD LOVE CUSTOM MODS FOR THIS!
Like a zombie mod, or more guns mod, and so on!
Would anyone else like that?
P.S. I program hl2 mods. ;D
This game cannot be a complete entry in the CS franchise without full modding/skinning/mapping support.
I know. but what about a code base release like hl2 and alienswarm? That's what I was wondering.

Nope. You'll have to wait for EP3/HL3 for that.

Counter-Strike: GO will not have any SDK at all. All it will have is the Authoring Tool for it. Nothing more, nothing less.
None of the Valve games since Left 4 Dead had any sort of SDK, except for Alien Swarm, which isn't truly developed by Valve. They didn't even release the source code for Source 2009, so I don't really think I will see any SDK for other games either.
And not even Counter-Strike Source has the SDK for it, so I do not know where people got the idea that CS:GO will have an SDK.
As doomed stated, a new SDK will probably be released when EP3/HL3 is out. The only SDK released since Source SDK was Alien Swarm's SDK.

Most people see "SDK = Map Editor", that's why they ask it.

I guess that is true. Although people should understand that SDK is used for the term when the devkit tools come with a source code as well, where the Authoring Tools (AT) come with only the toolkits and nothing more.

The Source SDK is a software development kit compiled by Valve Software that is used to create maps or mods for the Source engine, with the exception of Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Alien Swarm, and Portal 2. These games are packaged with their own SDKs, called the Left 4 Dead Authoring Tools, the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools, the Alien Swarm SDK and the Portal 2 Authoring Tools respectively. They are all tweaked versions of the Source SDK, but tailored to suit the needs of the games and their engine builds.
Authoring tools=SDK
Previous CSS SDK was called Source SDK, Source SDK Base 2006 before the update.
Current CSS SDK is called Source SDK Base 2007.
Valve has stopped giving out the Source code because they are selling it to developers to use in games. Wouldnt make sense to sell it when its free would it?
Also the only difference in the SDK and Authoring tools is there is no Source Code in the Authoring tools.

Chet Faliszek said there will be mod support for PC at the same level CSS is at. Sounds like you can still surf, gun mod, skins, and etc...

Not true. You can use the complete SDK as it is now free of charge, but in order to charge people money for your product you must license the engine from valve first. Otherwise, you'd be commiting copyright infringement and Gabe would sue your pants off.

Show me where i can get the Source engine 2009, 2010, and 2011 Source code for free....
The complete SDK your thinking of is legacy source engines which not many games are made on.

TF2 is free, there for SDK is free, and I believe it contains the latest code for the engine TF2 is on(Source 2009?). And Alien Swarm comes with Source code also.
Anyway, I highly doubt they will release the latest engine code with CS:GO, and anyway Alien Swarm is pretty much up to date with L4D and L4D2's engine code. Authoring tools is all we need anyway, it's not like they released CSS' source code.

TF2 is on the Source 2009 engine along with CSS. However the SDK for these games is Source 2007.
I agree, Authoring tools is all that is needed.

Way to necro.
Anyway, the official website says there will be a SDK released after the full game is released. Dunno if it will be free or not.

I made a few tests some days ago, compiled maps using Alien Swarm, Portal 2 and regular Source CS:S uses.
Alien Swarm compiled map crashed CS:GO imediatly, Portal 2 had some entity issues and "regular" Source worked just fine.
I started working on a simple aim_map for CS:GO already heh

I'm 99% certain there will be mapping tools for it (authoring tools) and support for server plugins.

Correct, although they will likely come after the game is released. (Not that this stops people!! I've already seen several people (like yourself) start mapping & skinning for GO!)
Here's what Chet said to me when I spoke to him at Eurogamer in London last year.
Me: The first thing many people wanted to know is will Counter-Strike: Global Offensive support custom content and if so to what extent?
Chet: Yes Global Offensive will support pretty much everything that Counter-Strike: Source did in terms of customization.
Me: So will be seeing an SDK for CS:GO?
Chet: Yes.
The full interview can be found here (http://www.gamebanana.com/csgo/news/20059) and over the 2 interviews we cover nearly all aspects of modding for CS:GO.

A proper SDK is a whole lot more than a simple mapping tool. I think a proper SDK is what a lot of people have been waiting for for a long time. Hopefully they will release one, but we'll have to wait and see.

Q)Can I make maps for CSGO?
A) Yes, there will be a new SDK available after the full game has been released. During the beta you can start laying out your map ideas with the current Counter-Strike: Source SDK.

Does anyone really study or Anything before posting on the Forums? Yes,it's been confirmed by Chet multiple of times in many interviews that CS:GO would have Full support of Source SDK and will be the most updated Source SDK till this date.
