View Full Version : Please let Dedicated Servers not be the horrible mess there are in Black Ops

Edit: They*

I can only hope Activision won't go with GameServers again, because I've had enough of the limited availability of dedicated servers when it comes to location.
It's ridiculous - I live in Israel, and the closest server to me is in Germany, with a minimum of 100ms+ ping?

Give us back dedicated servers the way they were up to World at War!
Where everyone could host a dedicated server no matter WHERE they live, because the way it was in Black Ops, it was almost racism - the Middle East got screwed for no reason, and the same goes for large parts of Asia, I imagine.

It will be like cod4 where everyone can host one.

Im calling it now that MW3 servers will have silly rules like crouch only or the Nuketown map running 24/7.

Just like in COD 4.....except it wasn't a big forum topic back then for some reason.

Why is it that a post like that is on a blog I've never heard of? I call shenanigans on that blog.

Reading the sources on the blog that link to official IW members Twitters stating "free dedicated servers on PC" (eg: server files with freedom of GSP choice if you want to pay) too much trouble?

The article you want is here at Sledgehammer games, the makers of MW3 MP (NOT IW):

The interesting part is here From QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK| GAMESCON EDITION:
Written by Michael Condrey VP/COO of Sledgehammer Games.

"What MW3 announcement were you most excited about at GamesCom?"
Holly R., London UK

There was a lot of MW3 news to be excited about this week. A brand new Spec Ops Survival Map, Paris, was unveiled. We showed Invisible Threat, our newest Spec Ops Mission. MW3 on the Nintendo DS was shown for the first time. The COD Elite integrations with MW3, and the upcoming $1M COD XP tournament and MW3 MP reveal were all hot topics. Also, responding to fans' request, we announced the return of dedicated servers to the PC sku. Specifically, we announced that MW3 will support user hosted dedicated servers on PC for free. Players will be able to set up their own server instance and administer their MW3 dedicated servers with direct control over: game rules, setup, ban lists, and more. Players will be able to browse, filter, add favorites, and join MW3 dedicated servers of their choice. All of these features, and the dedicated servers functionality, will be launching day & date with the MW3 PC on November 8, 2011.

Despite that statement, and taking the ambiguous information releases from the previous 2 titles into account, I won't buy into anything they say until the game/files are released to the public.

It would be great if they put some features of IWNet like party lobby and unmodded servers.

Not true.
In the end, you can always make your own server with your own rules...

i think part of the reason is with CoD4 you had a ton of variety and loads more players...hence more places to play....

also think MW2 may have had a part in it as well...with the new crowd it brought with it into pc gaming...gotta love the pc console game.....

This is true, but the main problem with that is to get a server occupied.

For example I did have a 20 player ranked BO server running with sabotage as gametype, no rules and all maps, except nuketown, which only saw some traffic during the first month. Then because on the forums lots of players were asking to play on a smaller servers and no nuketown, I reduced the server to 12 players only, result: still no traffic whatsoever. The bottomline is that without an existing friendsbase it is pretty difficult to attract a good crowd on a server.
