yeah, but it's a Dx9 native engine (it has to be, it's a console game ported on pc), so you'll just get some better light effects with Dx11. I'm not even sure they put tessellation.

IMO, Boderlands was a Port. The menus alone were all designed for a controller, you cant even use the mouse wheel in menus. Menus are not very user friendly.
Skyrim, though designed for the xbox, mods will fix many problems for PC. I also have faith in Todd Howard, he wouldnt screw over the PC.
I am waiting for reviews for Dead Island, hoping its amazing.

I'm surprised the engine runs in DX11, which is fairly nice. But it's really not going to matter if I can't change that god awful FoV that I've seen in the early console play-throughs. You couldn't change it in Bound in Blood and boy was that painful.

You're wrong.
The engine is made to work on consoles, so it's extremely limited by hardware. We may have better hardware, but the game has been built with console hardware in mind, we won't get more than higher res, some better lightning and filters.
Textures will be the same, polycount will be the same, it's a multiplatform game and nothing will change that, all multiplatform games are like that.
Except Battlefield 3, 'cause DICE actually used a Dx11 native engine for the pc version (Frostbite 2.0), while the console versions will run on Frostbite 1.5, which is Dx9 native.

If it's coming out on consoles same day, then it was on console an ported to PC more often than not. It really doesn't make any difference anymore. You can apply this simple test:
Is it a game? Yes / No
If Yes...
Has it been released on PC? Yes / No
If Yes...
People will nerdrage about it being a console port regardless of how it looks, how much fun it is or how awesome the gameplay proves to be. I'm getting sick of hearing the phrase 'console port' on these forums. If a developer so much as picked up a 360 game in a store one time they get accused of making a console port. Developers are gonna do whatever is more cost effective, and if that means making it on a console and porting it, then that's what will happen. Get over it, enjoy the game and move on. If it bothers people that much that games aren't developed specifically for the PC, then don't buy them.

You said it.
To answer everybody's question, the answer is "Well, of course it's a console port". I can't even think of more than five games made in the last year that are cross-platform AND were designed where PC gamers would get priority.
The real question is whether or not the port is really messed up. I cannot tell you how many PC games were essentially messed up due to dumb design decisions taken from the consoles:
Bioshock 2 was already a kind of average to sub-average game, but it didn't help that 2K Games thought that it was a smart idea to lock the framerate to 60fps. My personal favorite is that the consoles actually had more controls than the PC version, because somebody thought that PC gamers want less features.
Metro 2033 has a very diehard fanbase, but I cannot deny that the game has some really terrible design points. Despite that a PC clearly has lots of storage, the PC version only offers one save location. If you click the "New Game" button, then it erases all of your checkpoints and previous saves and you start all over from the beginning. As a result, Metro 2033 is the only FPS game that I know where you can't replay any chapter you want after beating a game, only reload checkpoints from your last playthrough.

hey guys it isn't a "console port" because, like me and other already said (and you can found other info everywhere), it's a multi platform engine, good capable engine with many graphics and physics support (you can check the wiki). So no priority for console or viceversa, just an "all-around engine". BTW it is still nice looking and personally I just hope it got also a good gameplay, etc. Games with fantastic graphics and horrid gameplay are useless (for me) ^_^
P.s.: sorry for my english but it isnt my motherlanguage...

They are using the Chrome 2 engine which is an engine they designed specifically for the pc. After they stopped development on the Chrome 2 game they started Dead Island then they decided they wanted a console version as well. It most definitely started as a PC game then a console version was tacked on later.

You have to love all the guys here screaming port left and right without even knowing what that means.
I bet most of them (including the extremely smart one that said pc games are not ports only if they come out on pc first) must think that a game like, say, Resident Evil 5, was a port on the PC, or Crysis 2 ......oh that has to be the best, lol.
Guys, wake the hell up, just because a game doesn't support your mouse wheel or even your mouse in menus, DOES NOT MEAN IT IS A CONSOLE PORT, just that consoles were the focus.
There are very few cases were console port is correctly used. Dead Island is most definitely NOT a console port.

Console gaming is one of the factors that is saving the PC gaming industry, at least if you ask me. What with the high cost of making games, the high cost of gaming PCs, and the ease of pirating. Many many great games would've never been released to PC at all if not for the success of consoles.
Sure you get a bad one here and there, but it is pretty rare that the PC version is flat out worse than the consoles.
If it's equal to the console version with higher resolution, higher framerates and cheaper then really what's to complain about. It's always better than not having the option to play the game at all.

Even if they praised how hard about game being made from scratch to pc. Just think about Duke nukem forever, Fable 3 and hundred other games. You just can't trust devs anymore except maybe some indie devs. Game might be:
A. Buggy as hell
B. Requirements might be lie and instead of 9800gtx you need 470gtx to get more than 34fps at high settings+ you need to OC your cpu bigtime
C. Game just flops, is short, lame, unpolished etc...
D. Game's just as good as it was hoped to be but someone still needs to whine about it and someone ALLWAYS will

Funny how you never hear much about console piracy. There aren't many software pirates in my social circles among PC users, and those that do, use the illegitimate software as a demo- if none is available- Meanwhile, every console owner I've known for the last 6 years has had their console modded to play pirated games.
Let's not beat around the bush, piracy is both an issue and a non-issue in that it occurs on all platforms.
PC gamers certainly shouldn't be thankful for the existence of consoles. PC gaming is slowly being turned into the third wheel of the industry because console owners are satisfied paying more for less.
For clarity, I have nothing against consoles personally. They offer a more casual, hassle-free experience for the end user. It is, regardless, unfortunate that through multiple factors, PC gaming is largely being phased out in mainstream gaming.

Some of you folks really need to detach your brains from the "console port" mindset and think of it as "multiplatform release" because that's what it is and that's how the game industry has worked for about 10 years now with few exceptions.
I know that but, I didn't know it was a requirement for a achievement on a pc game.
Well now you know. Many PC games benefit from analog control such as driving games. They had the functionality using an analog stick and left it in. You really think they coded an achievement into steam by mistake? No.
A port is when a game is created on 1 platform and then ported to another. Unless they delayed the console release date to finish a PC port (incredibly unlikely) they were indeed working on both versions together.
If you are upset that they didn't do things specific for the PC that's a different story. The did leave a nice config file for us to play with.
Some of you folks really need to detach your brains from the "console port" mindset and think of it as "multiplatform release" because that's what it is and that's how the game industry has worked for about 10 years now with few exceptions.
Exactly.
