New to the series and all, but this game had me hooked after i got use to the controls after a level or 2. I see alot of posts on a broken game but it installed patched and played well.
Don't know but i have to post 10 posts before i can post on how broken steam support is though :D. Nice loop of never ending cycle of never being able to set up a support ticket.:o Now thats broken.
This game on the other hand after all the patches played well and has been one the the better games i have played in a long time.
How is The first Bioshock?? Good enough to purchase???
BioShock 1 is way better than the 2nd one.

Matter of opinion....but i will slightly agree with you. There were things about the 1st one that were better and things about the 2nd one that were better.
Let's just say there is not a story in ALL of video gaming history that can top the 1st one.

yeah Im new to the bioshock series. IMO, its the best game that has a great story. I think that the first is better because of its length, its shock moments (remeber in the first area where you pick up a tonic and when you turn around there is a splicer, or the acadia when you follow the one splicer calling for help), and the fact that it was the first one. The parts of Bioshock 2 that I liked, was the duel weapons (weapons and plasmids), the drill (silly reason, but it was helpful to use), and the multiple endings. No joke, i got really choked up when I watched the "pure good" ending for bioshock 2.
Back on topic, i strongly recomend getting the first one :)

I kind of hate the video game industry sometimes. It's the only medium where "sequels" often have so little connection to the original that there's no reason to play them in order. So then when someone goes and makes a proper sequel, people have no way of knowing they're expected to play the original to know what's going on.
And frankly, SCE, I don't know what to say about the fact that you were able to enjoy Bioshock 2 without having any clue what was going on. But I'm guessing it means you didn't enjoy it for the story. So, no, I guess you wouldn't get much of anything out of playing the first game at this point.

Bioshock 1 has a much better story, but slower-paced combat that might not be your cup of tea, plus of course less powers and tonics.

BS2 is indeed a great game!
However I found BS heaps better. Obviously when BS came out the artwork, the concept, the sisters. All of that was very new and unique.
BS2 has more of everything and IMO this doesn't help. Maybe it's because I'm older (30+), but I get a little bit overwhelmed with all the weapons and choices. I always wonder if I'm playing "the right way" or something like that.
I do play on easy so I can focus on the story and the atmosphere, but even on easy there are heaps of enemies.
I'm the kind of player who played Dead Space with the plasma cutter only and BS I was mostly playing with the ice plasmid and the wrench.
BS2 also feels quite repetitive compared to BS.
I do like the "ethical choices", but they are quite rare in the game.
So yea BS is hard to beat because when it came out it was so unique and a real gem.

Something I would like to add...
The amount of enemies in Bioshock 2 kinda defeat the purpose of setting traps and using plasmids to confuse people. In BS this was really effective. You could sneak up on a situation, think about how you would approach it and eliminate everyone without losing any health.
But in BS2 you can put up turrets and traps and they just keep coming.
I also found BS more "creepy" in a way...
Still BS2 is fun, but BS was a lot more epic IMO.
And the physics engine being suck at 30fps is also quite lame.
Why didn't Andrew Ryan just tell you to "Would you kindly kill yourself" before you could do any harm?

He didn't figure it out until Jack was just abut on his doorstep. He only started to suspect something the truth when Jack got to Hyphestus(sp). By then it was to late. sm

How are people like you finishing games in 24 hours. Your eyes must've been dirt dried from lack of blinking. Theres no harm in continuing a game the following day and so forth....unless you have borderline alzheimer's and afraid you'd forget your game progress
