Using a VPN - would such a course of action be frowned upon, and shall we say punished?

Punishable by death in some states.

I know quite a guy that has done it with a few games on Steam in order to get avoid the wait between staggered release dates...He has tons of games, so I doubt he would risk having his account banned...I don't really know though.

Staggered releases in this day and age are pretty much unacceptable in my view. There is no justification for them.

Your account will be banned. Don't listen to the idiots in the Dead Island forums: Your account is up for grabs should you put it at risk by tunneling or using VPN.

Yup, if they catch you, you probably will get banned.

what is VPN?

A virtual private network - it provides me with an IP to view US content. Like hulu

Proof or you're no different to the idiots you just described.

Definitely frowned upon, I wouldn't risk it.
