Crashed 5 times on the first level

Why does steam even sell these games? Judging from these forums noone has had pleasant experiences with them...

Just venting my frustrations.

Edit: also it crashes whenever I try to save, anyone know a fix for this?

Quick save or menu save? Does it crash before the save is complete or on returning from the menu after saving?

Menu save, just crashes to desktop. Luckily it doesn't when quicksaving so I can keep the game going through that rather than playing the first level constantly.

Turning off Backbuffer in System Memory (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=968095#post11294189) fixed the problem for me. Apparently it doesn't work for everyone (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=968095#post11294516), but it's probably worth trying.
