hard copy on steam?

So i pre-ordered Skyrim at Gamestop, and in about 4 days after that it appeared on steam, and also i want the map. so will i be able to activate the hard copy from gamestop on steam?
would like to hear something from VALVe

It's a Steamworks game. Thus you'll take your retail copy, plug in the serial number into Steam and you can toss the disks away if you want.

The only difference is you won't have that map thingy coming with preorders in hand, or however it works. It is one of those games I want the discs for so I just got it on amazon for free release day shipping (They say you get it day of release :s)
