View Full Version : [Suggestion]Better feedback needed when failed weapon switching during cooldown

Might I suggest you add some kind of feedback to failing a weapon switch? Right now, my primary annoyance isn't the actual cooldown, but the total lack of feedback when trying to switch weapons/mode. A suggestion would be to have the green bar thing that displays the cooldown to briefly flash red. But any kind of feedback would be better than mashing a button without any response from the game.

Yeah there should be a hnnng sound effect similar to the 'this door is locked', 'this item can't be picked up' in other games.
Seems at least one reviewer thought the keyboard was laggy when he couldn't switch - evidence the feedback should be improved.

Or how about removing it entirely since it doesn't fit at all in an old school FPS. Punishing me for shooting and switching guns? Seriously?

This is not an old school FPS. Clearly. It was made in 2011. However, they chose NOT to include some modern shooter elements which makes it feel old school.
Doesn't mean they need to conform to everything that old shooters did. What's the point of creativity when we can just copy everything other games do?
The cooldown makes sense, but I don't think that should stop you from switching guns. It should just stop you from using THAT ability for a while.

That's what I meant. Get rid of the whole "you can't switch weapons while cooling down" not the cooldown itself. This game was billed as an old school FPS. Here's a quote directly from the store page: "Fast-paced, old-school shooter gameplay" so I expected as much.
What's the point of doing something different when it doesn't fit in the style of gameplay and makes it less enjoyable? Pressing a key to switch weapons only to have it refuse to work is not fun, down right infuriating in fact. I love creative new stuff, but only when it complements the gameplay instead of ruining it. Being different for the sake of being different does not automatically make a game good.
Old School FPS are a VERY reactionary genre. Giant group of smaller enemies attacking you? Switch to chaingun. Melee monster out of nowhere in your face? Shotgun time. Giant fireball shooting demon? Rockets it is. The cooldown system in this game prevents it from achieving the fast, smooth, responsiveness that the genre is known for, it adds no depth and is just annoying at best. This sort of mechanic could work fine in other shooters, but not this one, it's ridiculously out of place.
