View Full Version : Not really enjoying it...

I'm not really having fun with Xotic. It feels like a mixture of a bad mod and a Rare platformer. The latter mostly in the sense that TONS of collectibles are scattered around the level, loads of them hidden and searching for them just gets tedious. A level goes pretty much like this: Spend one minute clearing out all the enemies, spend 5 minutes looking into every nook and cranny for those damn collectibles and then jump into the level exit portal. Enemies are so rare that I haven't had a chance to use 5 of my 8 weapons yet (and I'm only using one of the 3 I do use because it's the default for the right mouse button) and most of the time I'm using the pea shooter anyway because I'm shooting at things that die in one hit and many enemies don't take much more either. The combat doesn't feel good either, I'm not feeling like I really know what's going on. Shooting is unsatisfying and often I don't even see what hit me or notice that I'm taking damage.

That combines to form a game with bursts of unfun combat spaced out by long scavenger hunts for stupid collectibles. I guess I could just ignore the whole scoring aspect of it and just blast the enemies dead and use the exit but that'd be a more interesting option if the combat didn't feel dull.

I actually like the searching to be honest, get the extra stars for finding everything on the level.

The combat I wasn't too bothered about, they're just stopping me from searching and getting to the exit to see how I done.

If you're getting hit you'll see what look like leaves on your screen, also watch out for the upside down scab plants, they explode and can kill you instantly.

I thought it was enjoyable and I'm pleased I bought it, I've spent more on other titles and they've hardly been touched so well worth the money I spent for it and I hope we see more from these devs.

I think you've missed the point of the game completely - it's not a shooter, it's a puzzle/score attack game which just happens to use a gun to collect things.

The fact you talk about guns etc. suggests you thought otherwise but I don't think it really sells itself as that - hell the trailers don't contain any enemies!?

Enemies are just moving/harder to kill 'collectables' anyway - the idea here is to find the fastest/highest scoring path through a level - and to do that, you need to unlock some stuff...

If you find the idea of finding hidden stuff/finding everything/doing so in the least possible time/best possible score boring, you bought the wrong game entirely...

It would be like me buying COD/MW3 and complaining that there were no puzzles/not enough hidden prizes/no score attack mode :)

I bought COD4:MW1 for the airplane level, which is basically score attack mode.

Most score attack games I've played so far are fast paced affairs where puzzle scoring consists of shooting stuff in the right order or quickly or whatnot. Not finding as many collectibles as Rare would stuff into a game.

As for the weapons, hey, I'm not the one who decided to stick eight individually upgradeable weapons into this game.
