I'm planning on picking up this card tomorrow and I was wondering if it could play source games on max settings with around 50fps average. I currently have a Celeron E3400 2.6GHz I was wondering if I should buy a AMD Phenom II X4 955 or just overclock it to 3.6GHz. I don't plan on playing Battlefield 3 or Crysis 2 but I will be getting RAGE ad Skyrim but I probably would just play them on lowest settings.

So will source games have a decent frame rate at max? and will I have to upgrade my processor cause of a bottleneck or just overclock it?

I won't be using DX11.

EDIT: Specs
Motherboard:ASUS P5G41C-M LX
RAM: 2GB DDR" soon to be 4GB DDR2
PSU: unlabeled PSU so don't really know specs of it
RES: 1440x900

imo you should list a budget and posbly build a I7 2500k build.

that celron is a weak cpu. if you buy a amd cpu you will need a new mobo.

whats your current ram models. are they ddr2? how much ram you have?

list system specs pleas.. mobo psu ram....

A Radeon 6370M (a Mobility Radeon 5470 rebrand) will run Portal nearly maxed out with 4x MSAA. I think I skimped on the Anisotropic Filtering and Portal Depth.

I also used the Intel Core i5-460M clocked at 2.53 GHz with multi-core rendering enabled, so it may have helped greatly.

and I'm not going to buy any Intel Quad Core just because I'm a student with no job so I'm on a tight budget.

Technically, the only way to make your PC run any game decently would be to buy a decent Core 2 Duo and a 5670. And that's gonna be a little sharp on whatever budget you have.

Will run L4D at over 100 fps w/ medium settings, no AA. I am going to buy this card as well.

Never think your GPU is good based off source games. They're optimized through the roof and even a very low-end card can handle them.

i never said my gpu is good nor i ever think that. I consider my HD 5770 a low end card by now.

I consider my (5750) to be low-end as well. But I plan to upgrade to the 7000 series or something when they come out.

I ended up buying a HD 5770 for 45 runs nicely at 150fps on CSS :D thanks for the response though.

L4D2 wasn't very optimized during the first few months. My laptop with a 9300m gs was playing it fine on medium settings while people with GTX280s in quad/tri/duo SLI and even SLI turned off were having problems running it at lowest possible settings.

I just installed my new graphics card this morning and my system ran well I got an average of 70FPS on left 4 dead 2 and 150FPS on Counter Strike on max but now counter strike is stuttering and I get auto-disconnected a few times with the average FPS at 50-70. I think it might be a PSU problem because it isn't a branded PSU just a unlabeled one so it impossible I think to find out how many watts it has.

The auto-disconnect I think is my wireless card not getting enough power. My new graphics card isn't a super powerful card it doesn't have a casing around it but just a fan on it so it and it doesn't need to be plug directly into the PSU.

My Specs:
CPU: Intel Celeron E3400 @ 2.6GHz
GPU: AMD HD 5570 - 1GB DDR3
RAM: 2GB DDR2
MB: ASUS P5G41C-M LX

PSU could be the cause but I thought that HD5770 cards had an external power connector? I know mine does.

You are confusing. It's probably a driver conflict.
