I'm pretty sure you have to have Medieval II installed first. Kingdoms is an expansion pack.

Ha I know it's crazy. When I first bought the kingdoms expansion originally there was an option to select which game packs(Britain, Crusades, Tutonic, etc.) you want to install. I guess you have to download and install them all now with the steam version.

I don't know if it's actually 20 gigs, though. Medieval 2 on its own is 8, but with kingdoms is 12. However, I'm pretty sure that just means that if you install both at once it will be 12 total as Kingdoms uses alot of the same core files from the Medieval 2 install. Kingdoms is only listed as 12 because you need to install all the Medieval files first in order to install it--but if you have Medieval installed already you should only have to download 4 gigs more to install Kingdoms.
Total War games are bloody huge, though. Napoleon and Shogan are each 20 gigs on their own. Which is kind of insane if you have a slow connection.
