so from reading some posts and racing melb' i found that quick car setup from the engineer only works in Practice and qualifying. the actual race the quick car setup is not an option.

as it was raining i had set up medium anyway, but in 2010 i would change to wet/dry setup to go that lil bit faster. cant now.

so how do i learn about car setup?
is there a place on the net that helps yu understand the manual car setup section?

thanks

This site won't explain anything about cars and tuning, but there are several setups for every tracks and they can be discussed and everyone can post their own ones.

awsome, thanks guys...

also, do you miss the televised interviews when you won the race and you sit down with the other podium winners?
now its just a trailer interview, it was a bit anti-climatical after all the cheering once i finnished jumping on my nose cone heh..

i mean, they have this saying "live the life", well, the only interation i get is a couple of interviews per race, the rest im stuck in my trailer checking emails, im sure hammy has a more exciting life than that....
aint even got a groupey manager to look at like 2010 :-(

I think 2010 was much better in many ways...one of them being the televised interview for the podium guys. The press interviews were better too and it was good as the weekend went on more people congregated in the paddock area.
I also miss my agent (bless her) not much of a looker, but a human being at least!. There are quiet a few things I wish they had left alone, one being the Pit Request In and I wish that they had left the engineers settings alone...got to set everything up ourselves now, except front and back wings, as far as I know.

I did find out that after Practice and Qualy, if you exit the game and come back in to finish the session, Quick Setup from the engineer is enabled. I had to pick up the kids from school the other day and run some errands, so I quit to main menu and exited the game. Later I came back in to finish the race, and quick setup was enabled.

but isn't it a official rule that the top 10 must have to start with the tyres and setup that produced the fastest time for Q3?

I heard that too. Although (to me) it wouldn't make much sense to be locked into a Qualy setup if it happens to rain on race day. I did a race in Melbourne just the other day that had partly cloudy sky's throughout the practice and qualifying sessions, and heavy rain on race day, so I had no choice but to modify my setup.

When quali or race has rain the whole tyre rules goes into the trashbin, in real.. In game i found out if you qualifi in rain your not only stuck with that setting, You cant change tyres just before race either due the top 10 has to finish on the qualifing tyres. (if you made it to top 10)
And the other way around aswell, getting stuck in a wet setup in a dry race cause quali was wet is pretty frustrating. And to shut down the game every time i need another setup for the race...

Its supposed to be parc ferme once they enter qualifying anyway, which for those of you that dont know what that is Once a car goes out for qualifying no changes may be made to that car until the morning of the race and even then that is for small things that may need replacing not fundamental setup changes such as dry to wet or vice versa. This is why you see the teams taking risks with setups in the real races as quali might be pouring down yet the race could be sunny so overall it would be better going for slow quali setup and having a better race.

Whether this is correct is another thing but id imagine the most likely.

In F1 real, if on qualifying day it is sunny and dry and you qualify on options or primes (slicks) the tyres and the set up are what you start the race with, if you are in the top ten. Ten down can use what tyres they want to. If it is raining then the race will be started on wets, Full or Inter's, there own choice. There is no way they would make the top ten start on slicks!!, F1 cars are expensive and drivers, although well protected can still get killed, or hurt badly in wet conditions, flying round on slicks.
Like has already been said; it is a gamble at some venues, where weather can be very changeable over a matter of a very short period of time and for sure, a 24hr period!!.
I don't know what happens in the game, as I have had three wet races, but following wet qualifying sessions.
If I remember right in 2010, if you qualified in the dry but race day was wet, the wets were already on the car in the garage. Would not imagine they have changed that.
The reverse also applies as to tyre choice, qualify in the wet but a dry race day, then you start on slicks. The set up stays the same as far as I know; please correct me if I am wrong.

You are absolutely right. It also adds some strategy to the qualifying. do you run a full wet setup, qualify poorly and have an advantage for the race, or the reverse. (if qualifying and race are under different conditions).

I believe you can make 'minor' adjustments to things like wing angles before the race, but that's about it. no changes to ride height, spring rates, engine mappings, etc...

if the quick setup option is available after reloading, it is a bug.

im still on the fence on this game, i might buy it every other year, i really liked last years except for the pit bug (easy workarounds though).
