The drill seems to be massively more powerful than the laser. Is there some upside to the laser I'm missing?

I did check the manual BTW,the longer it hits an enemy, the more damage it will do.but the laser still seems far weaker (i.e. takes noticeably longer to kill stuff) than the drill even when I'm fighting named enemies or bosses and keep the laser on them until they die.

I know back in 1.00 the laser was better then the twin drill, thought the twin drill could also be angled up and down. I've yet to test it in the 1.24 environment thought, so no clue there. I can only figure both weapons must have been nerfed thought ( twin drill greatly so, far longer to kill stuff then it used to )
