I am sometimes receiving this message (http://i.imgur.com/Tnc1I.jpg) when starting up Black Ops:
ERROR
It appears as though the persistent rank data for 'Klem' has been corrupted. Your rank has been restored to the most recently stored backup: Commander Lvl 50 Prestige 15.
Next, everything I did in my previous session is erased and I'm introduced into contracts I never accepted.
This seems to happen various sessions after I change something in my classes.
Is this happening to anyone else? What can I do? Halp!

It's happened to me once in 462 hours of BO; and seems similar, but distinct from, the prestige reset bug; which has happened to me one two separate occasions. The "corruption" problem was not big issue for me, as the previous backup was not tangibly different from my normal settings (although bizarrely I had contracts...) - the rank reset I had to speak to @PCDev on twitter to resolve; you can alternatively speak to him via the official COD forums.
These are USER forums, and the rank corruption problem is server-side, so there's nothing we can do here to help.
Well don't I look like a turkey? Couple of hours later an Activision bod just turns up and answers him, dang!

To help avoid this type of thing, when you drop out of games do not join another server quickly and do not exit all of Black Ops quickly. Give the game and the stats server plenty of time to synchronize and adjust before that.

Hey all,
Dov here with Activision customer support.
If you are continuously receiving this error, you may be experiencing connection issues while uploading/downloading your data to the game servers. I'd start with the basics by resetting your modem/router and if needed go through the process of forwarding your ports again (if connected to a router).

Also, check to see if you have any programs that are known to conflict with the Steam services.

If you are still experiencing the issue or your rank is not being restored, shoot me a private message here or on Twitter.
Hope this helps...

ATVIDov,
Thanks for your reply. All ports in my router are forwarded to my PC (precisely to avoid connection problems in any piece of software), I never have connection issues, and my security software is already configured as described in the Steam Support link you provided. Even better, my antivirus is always disabled while Steam is running, and I've been through 2 different (properly configured) firewalls while experiencing this problem.
Anyway I'll let you know when I get this error again.
