Okay so what the hell does this new patch do??
I can't find change log notes anyway, not on steam, not on codemasters forums and not on their twitter.
They've acknowledged the patch is out but no changelogs...frustrating!!
Also they say they're working on patch 2 and well aware of issues, so what have they broken with the patch I wonder?

Me neither. Unable to source a changelog from Codies or on Steam What's happening? Steam used to have these for virtually every update.
Only thing of note I witnessed during the install process was something for Rapture and that when I next ran the game the Audio had set itself as Rapture when I'd previously set it as Software.

It was performance tweaks and stability fixes, nothing specific was said about it. I will say it dramatically decreased load times and I actually noticed the gameplay smoother, so much so I amped a couple of the settings up from high to ultra.

It caused my G27 to freeze the game at start up again!!

We have the right to know what changes are made to our products. And with so many bugs relaasing just a patch that is 25,5 MB is a joke. This wont fix alot if almost nothing at all. Ive seen on the official CM forums this was even an eye-candy patch, the performance patch has still to come.. fairly disapointing to me

The patch was made before the game was released and was supposed to be released on release day. PS3 users got it but Microsoft and all it's glory to forever and a damn day to approve it and send it to out which is why we(PC/360) got it late.

Hmm, maybe they fixed the sound issue that was causing some stuttering. I will fire up my game in a bit and have a look.
There should be 2 audio devices selectable in the menu. Some people like myself only had one option and for me was causing sound stutter as it was trying to use software/rapture at the same time.

I'd prefer to see a log too, but I wouldn't judge the patch by size, program data doesn't take up much space at all (the space is taken up by the artwork, sound, etc.). The executable for the game is 21mb and it contains all the associated logic apart from a few dll files. There's potentially a lot of tweaks and fixes contained in 25mb if the executable was updated.

I tried to start my game and I see Rapture installed and now Steam says the game is currently unavailable. Anyone else get the same message?

I read somewhere that it fixes 11/11 bug which was originally there to test safety car and reduce the risk of them crashing....could be wrong though, haven't been able to verify (does someone else want to?)

Is wrong, from what people over at CM forums say.
Also raced online, people still seemed to use it.

im sorry but on a 10GB game i dont call that a major patch

10GB game? most of that is texture and models - actual code changes don't require changing those at all. They have not added any new content, so no textures or models needed.
for just bug fixes its more than enough.

Did you read what I said?
The game logic doesn't take up much space. They can patch most problems without adding extra textures, models or sounds, which are what take up 99.75% of the space, as Omnituens also points out.
The update probably just replaces the executable file with a fresh one with some bugs ironed out. The executable is basically a heap of raw text files linked together and converted into computer readable form. 25mb of raw text can contain a lot of fixes - that's a LOT of data, don't let the size deceive you, as it's essentially irrelevant in this case. Some bugs can be fixed with very little actual content changed. They might be as simple as editing or adding in a few lines of C++ code.

If they had gone ZOMG MORE CONTENT and it had been 25mb... you still couldnt complain as its free.

I believe you there but have you ever seen on any game a major patch that is so small? And they are already working on a 2nd patch so that just proves my point. what you say is true but this isnt a big fix, it was scheduled at launch of game. At that point they never received any bug reports from customers so they didnt or just barely know the current issues.

uuhm, ive have paid for the game so if there are any issues that are not caused by my system (which thankfully didn't happen to me that much) i have reason to complain.
But if there where patch notes, what this topic was about, we could check if it really was fixed and if not report that to CM so they are aware about it. Would surely help them out

This Patch was released on release. This patch was tweaking and refining the game it self which could include some of everything graphics/texture/code/physics/etc. There is no list but this was released on the same day as the game. The link below says its just refinements and such. Patch 2 is still yet to be released with all of are saved game data issue I hope.

I think if you have retail then you have to download it using Games for Windows Live.
I'm guessing just basically start the game and sign in.
