Nope, I used up all my items in an effort to escape after taking the screenshot (you can see I had already tried to shoot the rock heads away to see if I could get past.)

Heh, that's a good way of putting it. Basically my speed stat was maxed out or close to it, and I had already cleared the room so I came barrelling in via the top door while heading towards the boss. I crossed the gap onto the platform in the middle at full speed, temporarily pushing the rock head out of the way, but he was not impressed so he shunted me to the left and I became stuck there.
