I have just enough money ($50 or $60 bucks) to spend on a game.
I'm hoping this is the one i'll end up getting since it got great reviews and apprently has great gameplay.
I want it to last me until Skyrim. (So hopefully long, have good gameplay, etc).

Just need to know if this is good for a Mass Effect / RPG / FPS fan, and also, if it will run good on my computer.
I tested the www.canyourunit.com, as i usually do.
My computer can usually max anything out and maintain a decent fps, i have an Alienware. It's not too bad.
But on the test, it says everything is well above the recommended par besides my video card. I have a GeForce GTX 260. It says the only thing i lack is Pixel shader version (Recommended: 5.0, i have 4.0) and Vertex Shader version (Recommended 5.0, i have 4.0). Everything else is well above the recommended specs, so please tell me if i can run this smoothly and if i'd enjoy it.
It's the last game i would be able to get until Skyrim. So i would like it to last awhile and have great gameplay.

Thanks and i will + rep.

I've had this game since release but I don't get a lot of time to play it, I've managed 17 hours and as far as I'm aware I'm far from finishing it. It does depend on how you play though, I tend to go in every room I see collecting thing and hacking stuff. If you enjoy Mass Effect you should enjoy this, personally I think it feels a lot like Mass Effect 2.

I love how you can choose to go stealth and pick enemies off one by one, hack and turn robots against enemies, just run in all guns blazing or you could sneak past in air vents etc. You can also choose what Augments (upgrades) you have, so you can choose stealth upgrades (invisibility cloak, radar etc.) or you can go the weapon route and decrease recoil, add armour etc. I reckon it has a good replay value as you could play the game again but the opposite way to the first time.

As for running it I'm not to sure, it might be worth looking into it to see how your rig will cope. I hope this helps

You can do all the side quests and explore most areas in 20-30 hours on your first playthrough. I did a 2nd one and I spent maybe 14 hours or so with all side quests complete on the hardest difficulty.

However if you're a above average gamer / Deus Ex Fan / Good at RPGs then you'll spend a lot less time on your first playthrough.

Honestly in the end it doesn't matter how many loot you collect, seeing as its the end.

I've played it for 284 hours so far. That is not one play-through. I've got all but one of the achievements (still trying for "Foxiest of the Hounds"). On hardest difficulty, I can play through in about four evenings (at about 4-5 hours per evening), so about 16-20 hours, but at this point I know exactly where everything is and how to do everything for any specific end-effect, so I'm playing it through probably as quickly as it can be played.

The first time through was considerably more difficult, what with getting killed all the time, spending tons of time trying to figure out how to get from A to B, falling to my death, and so on. In various achievement-oriented runs, there were different problems to solve (and still are - how to avoid setting off any alarms at this point). I fully expect to get a solid 300+ hours out of it just to have done everything at least once.

I'm not a one-shot gamer, though. If it's a good game, I'll play it for fun over and over again. I played VTM:B for six months solid once. This one, I think, has a lot of replayability, as is generally true of Deus Ex games. I'm sure that, even now, while I've got ways of doing pretty much everything, I still haven't found *all* of the different ways of doing a lot of things. Thus, there must be at least one game left in which I simply try to do everything in ways I've never done them before.

I've played ME I and II, and I enjoyed them both. If that is a measure of parallel enjoyment, then I think you'll like this one, too.

For computer, well, you say you have Alienware. I don't. I have about three to four levels below Alienware, and no trouble, so I sincerely doubt you'll have any issues, but there is always a chance that particular weirdnesses of your machine could have an impact that I don't know about.

You know how the saying goes: "Shoot high and sleep in the streets.";)

I doubt it'll last until Skyrim(though that'll depend on how many hours a week you'll play it). Getting as much as you can out of the game, you'll probably finish at around 40-50 hours, unless you're seriously obsessing with it to the point of insanity. If you're used to the Mass Effect length(1st play-through alone took 60 hours for me), the length of this game will likely disappoint. One of the main reasons is that replayability comes down to wanting to play with a different style(stealthy vs charging in), not because of different endings(as it all boils down to "which button do I press at the end", a huge disappointment).

If you only want a single AAA game, then I'd say pick between this or Dead Island. However, I'd recommend spending the same amount, but on a load of highly acclaimed indie-games. You'll get a lot more play-time for your dollar, and if you don't particularly like one of them, there are others you can switch to if you're in the mood for. Games such as Bastion, Braid, Amnesia, Plants vs Zombies, Sanctum, Frozen Synapse, and many more will net you a lot more bang for your buck.

You also have 3 days left to get the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle(http://www.humblebundle.com/), where at the very least you'll be getting 3 pretty good indie games, and if you donate more than the average, a few other good titles as well.

Your computer is fine. I run a much worse computer and only have minor FPS and stuttering issues.

Good? Yes. Long? ..Not quite. If you stare at every little detail and read every email you find, you may be able to spend about 20 hours per walkthrough.

Finished it in 23hrs on the first try and did about half of the sidequests.

Isn't there always a few teenagers around who claim to have completed the game in under 2 hours, found the story extremely boring, the graphics sucks, and it crashes every 5 minutes. Oh, I forgot, they are currently in another forum bashing a newer game.;)

Seriously, I think you'll find its a good investiment, but if you can hold out until just after Thanksgiving, you'll like find the game is significantly discounted for a breif period of time along with nearly all other Steam games.

The only thing you'll be missing out on with that video card is being able to run the game with DirectX11.

I also have a 260 GTX and I think with your hardware ("everything is well above the recommended par besides my video card") you will be able to fully enjoy the game playing it with DirectX9.

I'm playing it for the third time now and have nearly 200 hours played. For me the funnest way to play is to explore everything and go for stealthy, non-lethal takedowns on every enemy possible. Playing in that style kept me entertained on my first play through for over 100 hours(I was very thorough).

For my second play through I cheated quite a bit, got all augmentations and weapons I wanted at beginning of game with infinite energy and stamina, but I disabled auto health regen(which barely made a difference, there's plenty of health items in game). I got kinda bored with this play style when I was about 2/3 through.

Now I'm going for a stealthy zero-takedown play through and I'm having fun again.

Guys above have chimed in most I'd want to say.
Just adding this: DX:HR seems to be constantly on sale somewhere, don't pay full price on it. I got it for $28 during preorder, and amazon had it for ~30 for a while. Right now Impulse is selling for 33.
As this is a steamwork game, buying anywhere should all be activatible on Steam.

So there, you save half your money for something else. Is that good enough to push you over the edge?

On my third play through now and has run smooth as silk on all three with my 9800 GTX. As others have mentioned, you won't get the full texture quality glory of the DX11 cards, but it will run fine. Have no fear.

If you are a fan of stealth games in general, and a fan of the original Deus Ex, I don't think you will be disappointed. This is a worthy successor to what I consider the best game of all time.

If your a ME fan you should like this, parts definitly remind you of ME2. (well did for me atleast)

Although the "3 ways to play" is a bit of a misnomer, it's a stealth game, if you go the "Rambo" route you just play a little less stealthy, you can't run in guns a blazin.

Also, IMO your arn't missing much not having a DX11 card, running DX11 everthing maxed it looks slightly better then ME2. Then again I think Crysis 2 looks slightly better with DX11 instead of DX9, I could just be focusing on the wrong things.

I'm a huge fan of Mass Effect, so that's a good game to use as a comparison.

I think Mass Effect has a better story and more interesting characters, although DE:HR is still good on those points as well. I think DE:HR has better character customisation, through the augmentation system, as from that point of view ME was a bit RPG-lite. The shooting sections in ME don't really have different ways to play, but DE:HR can be played as a shooter or as stealth. I would very much expect fans of one game to enjoy the other.

Length-wise, ME1 and ME2 took me around 20 hours each, and DE:HR took me around 25 hours, so DE:HR is slightly longer. I don't obsess about completing every side quest, I try to do as many as I can, but I like to keep the main quest moving forward as well - so its fair to say that a 100% complete playthrough would last a few hours longer.

40 hour playthroughs. Don't pay $50 for it imo, ~$30 is its worth. I got it for $28.80 pre-order through the GreenManGaming website.

My first run was 35 hours. This was on Legendary as a mix between pacifist and lethal (depended who I came across).

My second run was 40 hours. I was doing a Pacifist run (and a failed Foxiest and Doctorate) on Legendary. The second time I came across several new areas and I even found a few alternative ways to complete some missions that I had no idea about.

I'm planning on doing a full blown lethal run to pick up the rest of the achievements. Usually I'm against achievements because I think they're a cheap way to make a game feel longer, but in this game, they're nice because they get you to play the game differently. It doesn't feel so pointless when it gives you a different experience.

I would suggest getting it. If you take your time and enjoy the game like I do, it will last you for quite a while.

Another note: I bought the game for $50. I usually wait until games get super cheap before buying, but I felt good about the purchase. To put it in perspective, I just bought Portal 2 for $15. Personally, I couldn't believe anyone was willing to buy it for $30 let alone $50 or $60.

My brother runs this game in his nvidia 9800 with medium setting (1280 x 720. on and off on certain options that affect the frame rates the most. Others are set to medium) and get smooth 60 fps...
