I thought this was a pretty cool read:
TDK Discovers a Way to use Lasers to Double Hard Disc Capacity (http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/tdk_discovers_way_use_lasers_double_hard_disc_capa city)

Your thoughts?

Well a normal consumer probably won't need 8TB drives for a couple of years, even 500gb is a bit much unless you got a lot of videos.

I'm interested in the design of the drive, Hopefully it can take a good whack or two.

My 1TB drive is almost full. I store everything on it, including the OS, my Steam games, my HD anime, my miscellaneous Americun* movies...

Yeah, I wouldn't mind buying one of those if the price was reasonable.

Do you go through boxes of tissues as well?

If yes, then you are completely normal

Yep, videos will indeed fill up all that space in no time at all. Especially high definition video, that easily gobble up several TB of hard drive space.

I wonder if it will have the slow loading of blu ray? Lasers are cool though, especially if you put them on shark's heads.

I meant that if you have a lot of movies then yeah you can use a lot of space, but without it I don't really see the need to have more than 1gb because you probably don't use all the data stored very often.

Nor me (http://www.graydeathlegion.com/NotNormal.jpg) :(

I do back everything up tho, and I mean everything.

I'd love to upgrade to 8Tb drives :)

Nice but I won't need it for a long time, I have just on 1TB of storage and I'm using just over half and that took 10 years, but I do keep a clean rig...

But I haven't installed all my games again. Getting slack after the Win 7 install a few months back..

I have a lot of video and TV shows stored on a 1.5Tb Drive which has 400GB free space. I have that drive backed up to a 2Tb drive along with system back ups. I also have a 1Tb HDD that I've kept my pre SSD install of Windows on which is also used to install stuff I don't need on my SSD. 4.5Tb of storage that's filling up fast
