....and what a life!. This game is more boring than F1 2010 and yes; I thought that was an impossibility too. I just do not know what it is about these two games, that they need, to lift them out of the doldrums. On the surface, they look great, they have super tracks, very nice cars (that in 2011 perform as they should; ie a Lotus IS slower than a Red Bull) nice little touches, like KERS and DRS, good weather effects,DX11, that for me anyway, works well. Not so many bugs in 2011 as in 2010, so progress there. Car handling and mechanical grip much improved in 2011...could go on saying positives for this game of 2011; as well as 2010 to a lesser degree. So why why why, are they not able to hold my interest for a long period of time; I am an F1 nut, I love the sport, I have loads of F1 PC games that I have been playing for years and still do...I am confused, I really am. I shall play 2011 for a while yet (get my monies worth!) and enjoy it to a certain degree, but it will be like 2010; in a couple of months or so I will delete it from my PC and it will never see the light of day again. Strange is what I calls it....

From what i remember of the adverts for 2010, it portrayed a life of the driver on and off the track, with a certain glamour to it.

But all you get is being holed up in a trailer (2 trailers in 2011, which is pointless imho), and sometimes being interviewed.

You don't even get the press conference if you are in the top 3 i don't think (been that long since i won i've forgotten).

Like i said in another thread, Codemasters haven't done anything special and unique to this game, they have just used the same format on their other games (look at Dirt3).

Can't help but think that a company bigger than Codemasters would research the sport better and bring a better experience to the gamers.

One things for sure, Codemasters continue to release unfinished products and given 12 months cooling down the consumer just keeps coming back.
You can't deny the game looks great, if you have the pc to run it flatout it's delicious. CM fall down badly with Physics and the fact is Arcade sells (sadly).

I think overall the career mode is quite poor. Certainly agree that I found 2010 to be better (the post race press conference rather than standing outside a trailer talking to Crofty) in that sense. Even so I found that quite limited. Other than essentially unlocking access to better cars - the backbone of most arcade racers - the career had and still has very little substance to it. No driver moves other than yourself, the driver you ousted slips back into his position if you move on, driver and car numbers stay the same, no real contract negotiations, no sponsorship dealings etc.

To me the Codemasters F1 franchise is essentially a glorified version of the sort of thing Psygnosis were coming out with in the mid to late nineties. Pretty to look at but very little substance.
When I think how little I played the likes of Formula 1, F1 97 etc. compared to the years I spent playing highly modified versions of Microprose's Grand Prix 2, 3 and to this day I'm still playing 4.

Micropose, Geoff Crammond, GP3 and GP4, nothing else to say really is there!
You might remember a game from Micropose called 'Spirit Of Speed', I still play it now and again. If Codemasters want to know what tyre degradation in a PC racing game should feel like, they should take a spin in 'Spirit Of Speed', they could learn a bit from a very old game...good FFB too.
Bit off topic I know.

Couldn't agree more, GP4... outstanding. Funny thing is some of the CM team worked on GP3. All that information at hand:confused:

Does GP4 runs with W7?

I was smart and didn't buy into 2011. I'll wait for the 75% off sale. That said:

OP your not alone. I love F1, loved pretty much any game with open wheel racing in it, and even had some fun with F1 2010.. but it seems the game itself lacks a soul. I've never played any game that seemed so, eh.

I think to improve it and make it long term playable they need offer a mode that makes it much more sim and less arcadey, maybe use the LIVE THE LIFE mode for that. As an arcadey game.. there isn't much different to do after a little while of playing and since when is answering questions fun?

And my all time great idea/wish would be to pack in Indycar racing into the game complete with ovals. How cool would that be? Sim like Indycar and F1 and aracadey Indycar and F1 in one game.. I'd pay $50 for that.

@ bschuler.
No soul...great way to express this game.

Your idea of Indycar and F1, packed together in the one game, would be a sure fire success. Sim's catered for and Arcader's too...now that would be a feather in Codemasters cap.

F1 2010 and 2011 cost £26.99 so for the Indy'/F1, sim'/arc' of your dreams and mine, I would add, I would be prepared to pay double the £26.99 we paid here in the UK.

Won't happen though, not with Codemasters at any rate.

Got to shoot off, 7-45am here in the UK and the race (Korea) starts in 15mins.
