There's no multiplayer in Sonic Generations PC, PS3 or XBox 360.
The only version to have multiplayer is the Nintendo 3DS version.

I was hoping there would be local game play as well, but the fact that it doesn't isn't going to discourage me from buying it, especially since I was sort of expecting it to be a single-player only game.
