What are the advantages of using Ranked over an Open game? Is it just the access to the leaderboards and (supposedly) secure environment where cheating would be disabled?

Is there any reason to play Ranked when playing with people you know (who you don't have to worry about cheating or stealing your items)?

Are there any other advantages (currently in game or planned for later release) that Ranked provides like a secure auction house or something?

Well its like Diablo 2. Ranked means people can't just edit their save file to get anything. There is some talk of eventually having Steam trading for Ranked as well.
