I was wondering if there is any real ingame difference between the ingame irems on steam (the portal gun) vs the D2D ingame item (Mephisto - Healing your towers AND punishing your foes with blasts of fire, along with boosting your offensive statistics, Mephisto is the ultimate travelling companion!).
I'm not sure which version to buy since both have advantages and disadvantages. Any help???

well with the steam buy, you also get the medic (heals you if i remember right), heavy deals damage, pyro deals fire damage, and engineer repairs towers (i believe those are right) and the portal gun is a huntress weapon.

The devs have stated there will be upgrades to all preorder items available ingame.

Where did they say that? Cause I know there are pets that look like the one's you get for pre-ordering on other sites but are not the same. And I doubt the TF2 pets ever drop normally but could be wrong.

On the cynicalbrit youtube channel, The devs responded in full saying that the only quantifiable difference between the bonuses, was that steam was offering more, and that was down to them...And that many of the upgrades and pets you acquire ingame will ivariably end up with essentially the same skills/being more powerful anyway.
So really, strictly speaking - all you're paying for with your pre-orders, are aesthetic values.

... therefore, the more the better?
STEAM WINS!

Personally I pre-ordered from D2D, because TF2 pets feel out of place. It seems they are restricted to 25+ level?
D2D pre-ordered pet can be equipped from the start, making the game easier at first
