First of all, I've been playing since the mod and I'm surprised at how much easier the retail version feels, and yet players still seem to be having troubles with the games difficulty, this little guide should hopefully get the unexperienced player up to speed.
The Basics.
What the heck am I doing!
Your part of a four man modern day demon hunting cult of some sort, you and your team have to kill demons to get points.
You start the game with four weapons, a melee/cqc weapon, a pistol, a shotgun and an automatic firearm, all of these weapons can be ranked up to get more firepower out of them, you start with ammo for your pistol and your dedicated cqc weapon doesn't require ammo, the other two firearms are unavailable until you acquire an ammo box to use them.
Thats great and all, but how do I upgrade my guns and get more ammo for them?
Demons that you kill have a small chance of dropping an ammo box, the chances of a demon dropping an ammo box seem to increase when you have less ammo.
To level your weapons will have to fill an exp bar, when that exp bar is fill, a weapon upgrade box will be dropped, it will upgrade your currently equipped weapon. You can if you choose to, make all your kills with your shotgun and then upgrade your automatic firearm.
I saw all this fancy kung foo trickery, how do I do that?
You have two keys which are worth noting, you have a key that is dedicated to evasive moves, while evading you are invincible, so don't be afraid to dodge a few attacks, you also have a key dedicated to offensive attacks, these are your kung foo style attacks, combine both for some pretty powerful attacks, when a monster goes yellow it is stunned, you then have access to a finishing move, which will kill it outright in a pretty impressive selection of finishers.
I think this is more than a flesh wound, how do I heal?
Each gametype has different rules on healing yourself, however here are the basics.
1. You gain health for each kill you make, Specialist moves gain you more health than ranged kills. (Inferno only)
2. You start with a fresh 200 health if you die and are revived.
3. Every time you break a health stone/soul stone, you will get a certain amount of health back, a healthstone restores 100 health while a revived teammate is 50. (all gamemodes)
I've run out of health, what happens now?
Congratulations, you are dead. (sorry, wanted to say that) Your teammates can revive you by destroying your soul stone, so just wait, you can use the right mouse button to switch to your teammates view to watch them play.
Why do monsters keep turning red?
Monsters have a number of reasons to Rage, they can Rage at random, or after a set period of time, they can also Rage if you stun them but do not kill them.
Any further basic tips?
1.Chaining together evasive and offensive moves is a great option up close.
2. You can shoot stones, so if you can't get to a stone, shoot it.
3. Around the level's are special weapons, try to find them all.
Advanced lessons.
Coming soon.
