I ready and waiting to buy the game, but need to know if I apply AA via control panel will it work with this game. The game options does not have a "AA/FXAA or MLAA" option and want to know if forcing AA will work when playing.

Thanks to anyone that can answer.

I enabled AntiAliasing / 8X from the Nvidia Control Panel and launched LOTR with no problems.

But did it work though? Is the game now with 8x much better and little to no jaggies? I can apply 8xaa to every game, but alot of games there is something in the program that wont allow it or allow it to take effect. The game still runs, but no matter how much AA you apply, it makes no difference in the image quality.

So, even though you applied 8xaa, was the image quality alot better or did it run, but not have any impact as far as jaggies?

I will take some before and after pics and post. I will try to do this a little later today.

Much appreciated, but before you do that, I would settle for your word on if the image quality is better and that there is less jaggies when you applied 8xaa.

I am off of work today and want to begin the download. As much as I want to see the pics, if you can just tell me that you are seeing less jaggies than before will be good enough for me for now so I can begin the download as I take care of some things around the house.

Thanks for your assistence, much appreciated.

Which resolution will you be playing at?

I'm at 2560x1440, and aliasing is a total non-issue here. With some titles, yeah, it does help make the picture look 'clearer' (artificially so, of course), but with this title there are few 'jaggies' to speak of.

This title has a) lots of blur in it, and b) lots of action, meaning you're not going to be stopping a whole heck of a lot to make sure that the buildings (which are blurry anyhow - mostly because of the aggressive depth of field) are properly anti-aliased (not sure if that's a real word or not).

Anyhow, I enabled 16X AA for my GTX 480 SLI setup, and saw no difference whatsoever. Then again, there were no jaggies to speak of to begin with, so why would I expect to see a difference?

Honestly, this shouldn't be a deciding factor regarding your decision to buy or not to buy. I mean, there are much bigger issues at hand here. You even posted this over at the official forum. It's really not a big deal.

I game at 1080p resolution and while at the rez you are playing at it may not make a difference, depending on the game at 1080p it does.

I am not sure why you are saying it is not a big deal as with anygame that comes out, if you are gaming at 1080p and depending on the game, jaggies are apparent. Ask anyone playing Battlefield 3 at 1080p on how much a difference there is between no aa and 4xaa.

Again at your rez. yeah it is no problem for you and therefore "no big deal". But not everyone games at your resolution.

Also you comment about DOF, I thought I saw an in-game option for that? Was I wrong? Just curious. And thanks fro responding, appreciate any feedback.

I tossed the FXAA hack into the directory (DX9) and had no troubles. Game looks quite nice, and runs extremely smoothly for me. You might try forcing it in the driver control panel, but that might give mixed results due to the heavy shader use found in most games.

That said, lack of in-game support is annoying. Kind of an odd oversight considering the rest of the graphics options available.

Let me guess, you despise depth of field in any game, right?

I'll check to see if it can be disabled when I get home from work, but honestly, the game has tons of blur in it. I would go so far as to say it has multiple layers of blur.

It's not a great looking title to begin with - it's just not. I complained like crazy yesterday, but last night, just before going to bed, the gameplay began to win me over. The game, after about three or four hours, became addictive.

I'm looking forward to playing again tonight. But, yeah, beauty is not this game's strong point.

Blue like DOF, I dont mind as long as it is not overdone, but in some games they use it way too much. For example, in Witcher 2, I have DOF off for gameplay, but like it for the cinematics. Blur I do have off because I dont like it as much as well.

I just like a clean look in games and if there is one thing I hate it is jaggies, so hopefully forcing via control panel works, or I can try dumping the FXAA into the file folder to see if that works.

Not sure how to link a picture from another forum, but someone posted the screen that has settings and both Motion Blur and DOF can be turned off within the game. Not sure if there is just on-off or settings in-between, but sure enough it is in the settings menu.

So..now I wait for confirmation from someone here or my download to finish to try it myself.

BTW..Steam name is "Stateless" if anyone wants to co-op the game a bit later.

Despite the graphics options in the menu, motion blur, depth of field, and ambient occlusion seem to be broken, that is, there is not change with them turned on or off, on my system at least. Not sure if it's a driver issue or the game itself.

No SLI either, only using 1 GPU.

I wish these console devs would just stay away from PC games if they aren't going to support the extra features that PCs offer.

It's the same every time :(

I gotta say this game does look pretty damn good with no AA.

I find that the later stages of the game ,especially once you get to R. look quite awesome. Some real beautiful panoramic vistas and stop & stare moments (when you aren't getting hacked to death).
