Ok so I was really excited to play this game and when I finally got it to launch I was ready to get out there and solve some crimes. But the lag is awful. I can play gta 4 maxed out at a better framerate than I can LA Noire lowest settings. :( please someone help. My specs are :
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5 2467M 1.6GHz (2.3GHz w/Turbo Boost, 3MB Cache)
Operating system: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Chipset: Intel® QS67 Express Chipset
Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT540M graphics with 1.0GB Video Memory and Optimus
Hard Drive: 300 GB
I play most games including fallout 3, gta 4, modern warfare 2, crysis/crysis warhead, dead space etc max or near max so its not like my computer is crap. Please help ASAP :(

You should know that LA Noire max fps is capped to 30 on PC (see here (http://www.gamefront.com/l-a-noire-pc-is-locked-at-30-fps/))

This works for some people, bring up the game launcher, then go to options, then to command lines and write -str in it, then save and play, hopefully it'll help.

try adding "-str" (no quotes) to the commandline in the options page in the launcher.
gave me a solid +20 fps

I have a dual core 1.6 GHz CPU, yes, I know, my system sucks, it's way too low to play this game. But: GTA IV was running smoothly for me on low details while LA Noire which seems to have less detailed graphics has major performance issues. I will try the -str and see if it helps a bit. I don't mind if it doesn't run 100% smoothly, but it shouldn't be lagging that much.

THanks for the solution I tried it and I am know running at a more playable framerate now. Not perfect, still a little laggy and still have to have settings on mostly low but at least its playable. The only problem I know have is that the mouse cursor is appearing in game.... how do I turn that off?

The system cursor showing when using -str command is a known issue and R* is working on it. Seems like they've got their work cut out for them fixing this pile of console port rubbish. There is another command (-npd) regarding graphics compatibility, don't know if it helps you. If the cursor's still there you'll have to get nomousy.exe to hide the system cursor when playing.

Do you happen to know if LA Noire for PC will be patched soon for all these bugs and issues?

Rockstar and Nvidia is investigating the problem...
Not sure when the solution will come to us.

thats a bug when you enable -str (single threaded rendering) the cursor shows up. Rockstar said they're working on a fix.
as of now, i move the cursor off screen and use a controller :(

For PC lag, simply disable hyper-threading in the bios for Intel CPU, anyway hyper-threading doesn't really make an advantage, it causes much more trouble than it solves, in other words, it slowdown more applications than it increase in speed... No more lag, simple!

Use run instead of clicking the program directly.
C:\Users\username\Documents\nomousy\nomousy.exe /hide
Basically just copy paste the directory where you've installed the program and put the parameter at the end, in this case /hide

So hyper-threading is the reason for all this inexplicable PC lag? Or is it bad porting skills on Rockstar's part? Or maybe a little bit of both? I can run RAGE faster than LA Noire ran, and when one takes into account the vast technology differences that should not be happening... yet it is.
Just trying to figure out why this game, purchased by many on PC yet enjoyed by that elite console few, is epic failing...

The reason for this "Epic fail" is that the only reason this game was ported to PC was because of the financial trouble that Team Bondi is experiencing.
So in essence, this PC Port was a quick money grab. The game didn't sell that well on consoles because people expected an action packed open world game like GTA or Red Dead Redemption.
They then ported it to PC because the PC audience enjoy slow paced adventure games more. But this is the definition of a rushed port, its laggy and buggy in its current state. So I hope that this game will eventually be fixed and patched. Anyways short rant there, thanks for reading.

No, thank you for giving it. I didn't follow the game's production at all because Rockstar has seemed so console-oriented in the last few years; when I saw a PC edition was being made, I incorrectly assumed they would put effort into it; I figured it'd be a slower adventure game which as you said is what PC owners were trying to get into. I suppose it is mere wishful thinking that such a game would have been ported well. hah...

Well Team Bondi ,the original team that produced LA Noire, has shut down its gates from financial problems partly due to this games huge budget and underwhelming sales.
Therefore they scrapped the last few people from Team Bondi left and put them in the Rockstar division to create this quick PC port.
Its no coincidence that 2 months after this PC port was announced Team Bondi was closing its doors.

Certainly not. Looks like i'll be uninstalling and, as another forum user said, checking back every so often in hopes a big flood of praises show up for Rockstar's fixing this irritating issue.

This is not an issue that need to be circumvent, consoles don't have that sketchy hyper-threading Intel is trying to push for a few years now. It's sad to say, but even the most optimized code, when is resources intensive will have trouble to run with hyper-threading enabled! Making this game run properly with hyper-threading enabled will be to circumvent Intel's design flaws!

I have an i7 2600k and hyper-threading disabled and I can confirm this to be 100% false.
I bought BF3 and I had some frame rate problems in it because I stream live and my CPU took a 100% usage hit and my viewers told me to disable hyper threading. It didn't do jack ♥♥♥♥ and the game would still take an FPS dive. Only 'fix' I found was to stream in 480p instead of 720p and reduce CPU usage.
I know hyper-threading at the moment isn't taken advantage of in a lot of applications and games, but so was 1GB graphics cards back in 2008 and tech idiots would comment constantly that a graphics card with more memory than 512 mb is quote 'useless' because these nerds had no foresight. Nowadays a graphics card doesn't even come with less than 1GB in memory.
TL;DR: Hyper-threading disabled DOESN'T fix the FPS dive in L.A. Noire. The game stutters every 5 seconds for like 0.5 to 1 second, causing it to be unplayable.
I don't know a fix and would love one. Also on how to window mode the game so I can stream it on my channel.

this is a awsome game i been playing it a bit now. if console people dident like this then thats sad. this is the 1st game i played where you need to use your brain to play and not just run and shoot.
(i know its annoying but plz dont slag the game off just because it not working for you. )
i do have something you can try.... i played mass effect that work fine (loved it) then a few years later i wanted to download and intsall the game again to replay it ready for mass effect 3. but i got massive loading lags. (same pc same setup) turns out that my hard drive was or the download game files were fragmented so affter a defragment useing windows tools it work just fine.
L.A.Noire is open world and has to keep looking for files and pulling them up from your hard drive when you enter diffrtent areas of the map. so if your pc does not find them files quickly from your hard drive your F***d
try defragmenting the hard drive

This game runs ridiculously bad, even for a PC port. I can run Saints Row 2, in all its horrific ported content, better. I surpass the minimum requirements a bit, but don't reach the recommended requirements. I can get things working fine on the lowest settings, save a bit of lag here and there if there's a lot going on. Playable, but I know for a fact that I could run this game 10x better if Rockstar had put a capable team on the port. As it is, this is lazier than GTA IV. I would have liked a Red Dead Redemption port, but if this is the quality they expect PC gamers to deal with, I'd rather just get a console on the cheap at a garage sale someday, and play that way, once the new generation comes out. Rockstar seems to not understand that PC gamers expect the best, because we /are/ the best.

to get the game running at a proper framerate look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOU6UBfuhzA its works great and the guy does a good step by step tutorial so u can crate ur own tool that forces the game to run at 60fps. TOTALLY different game now its running at a decent framerate. The cutscenes are still in sync as well!
