I seem to remember that Steam will take CD keys from purchased games that are available on Steam, thus activating the game in the Steam library. I bought Sins on Impulse awhile ago but much prefer to use only steam. I tried entering the CD key Impulse sent me in an email when I bought the game under Games -> Activate a Product on Steam... however it would not accept the key. Does this feature exist anymore?

Sins isn't a Steamworks game. No.

Your info is incorrect. Just cause a game is on steam doesn't mean you can activate it on steam. There are some games that you can do this with but generally they are steamworks games or valve games. There is a list somewhere but I don't have the link handy. At any rate I believe I read sins of a solar empire would not activate on steam.

I also want to get away from Gamestop. I think you will have to wait for a good sale that justifies a second purchase or hope that Stardock's new DD service will support old Impulse keys.

Out of interest why does it appear that some have a phobia or even an allergy to the Impulse/GamersGate service these days? Or is that simply a similar phobia that some have against steam/anything not indy ;)

It does and it will. In fact you can go to the Stardock store right now and login with your account and you can download all the Stardock games you had purchased on Impulse before the sale to Gamestop. These same games will also be available in the new (old) Stardock Central download app.

I can download SoaSE Trinity from the stardock store, but not GalCiv Ultimate Edition, so at least for now not all games are available, but I guess it's just a matter of time until all become available through the stardock store.

I can download GCII but all the others say:
"Please use Impulse to register your serial number and download this software."
I can not understand why GC2 is different.
I hope this is only temporary, I would really like to get rid of GameStop and I only care about the Stardock games on the account. I wrote a request to support.

Alot of PC gamers do not want to support Gamestop in any way after they deliberately tried to sink PC game sales.

A PC game distribution system and market website tried to reduce PC games sales?

They reduced the PC games in their stores to 1 small rack, are sketchy on preorder bonuses, having to buy opened software, plus getting taxed. It looks like Stardock got a good deal by selling Impulse and now they can sell games through Steam which has a larger user base. Stardock made out big IMO.

Ahh this is the highstreet shops not the online service and eh come to the UK - you're lucky if you get a shelf of PC games in any highstreet games shop. The best you get is the top 15-20 odd current titles if that (many of the independents don't stock PC games any more). PC world is about the last place that you actually get a rack of PC games on sale and many of them are older stock titles waiting to be shifted out.
