Can decide, both look VERY good. Help me choose?

or

I personally have used Western Digital for awhile and would usually lean toward them but my opinion is bias. Both are good drives and for what HDD are going for price wise now I would just go for the Samsung at this point in time. I currently have a 750gb Western Digital Black and have been very happy with it for almost 2 years now.

My vote is for the WD Black, six months from now. Hopefully Thailand will have dried itself out by then.

It's close (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2009/10/06/samsung-spinpoint-f3-1tb-review/1), but the Samsung Spinpoint F3 is generally said to be one of the fastest 7200 RPM consumer hard disks. On top of that, it's generally cheaper than the Western Digital Black, which is often the other drive others ask about when looking at one.
I'm a Western Digital fan too, but that'd be a hard duo of factors to ignore. I buy based on what I get for the dollar, so I'll be the first to suggest the Samsung.
Either way, I wouldn't spend that kind of money on either unless you really need to. Those Samsung Spinpoints were like $70 to $80 months ago, and the Western Digital Black was like $80 to $90, but alas. Prices are up due to the flooding that hit Western Digital.

I say WD Black as well.
I had a few other brands, that died prematurely ... so ended up just sticking with WD.
All my WD drives have just been great.
So, in all fairness, I suppose I too am biased towards them :)
Do you have a Best Buy near you?
If so, get it there. They have the best price that Ive found ATM, with the current price hikes everywhere.
129.99 for the 32MB 1TB Black 1001FALS

And, you may get lucky and get the 64MB SATA 3 version in the box :)
Just dont count on it. But a few have.

My last Western Digital died in a lightning storm. After 7 years of hard abuse.

Western Digital seems like very solid choice.

From the benchmarks I've seen and what all I've done testing-wise myself on various setups, the Samsung F3 always came out on top. But side by side in the real world, the Black really equals right around the same performance. But overall I would pick a Samsung F3R. Performs just as well as F3 or WD Black, better stability for any type of RAID setup over the F3. WD Black and Samsung F3R also comes with 5 year warranty (instead of 3 years on F3). But overall price-wise, it's F3, F3R, WD Black. Black being the more expensive of the three with less or around the same performance.
Also you need to clearly identify/watch out for which WD Black model you're actually buying before you make the purchase (if buying BLACK) as there are two different ones. Look for the model#'s here on WD's website for Black Edition HDDs (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=100). From there click Specifications (under the large bold WD Black Edition print/name). Look at the model/size. The SATA II drives end in SS/LS, while the SATA III drives end in EX/LX. So if you're buying on a website that doesn't clearly show which one you're buying, I suggest buying elsewhere so you can be sure of this.

Hard Drives are very pricey at the moment, good thing I'm not buying my PC parts yet.

I got the Samsung F3 103SJ when i build my new rig and gives good performance.
Good disc, and at the time i bought it it was around 50 dollar (40 euro) and a better buy then the WD Black, price/performance wise.
At the moment prices are sky high idd, never looked again after i bought my parts...shocked!
But from my expierence i can tell you the samsung is a good and fast hdd, no experience with the WD.

Talking about HD prices in the other thread.
I bought that Samsung OP listed on 09/13/2011 for $59.99. I'm waiting for better prices to replace a dead 500 GB Seagate on another machine.

As you can tell from the responses so far...some people like samsun, some people like WD.
I own both and think you can't go wrong with either one.
Right now hard drives are 2x in price...wait if you can.

The Samsung F3 is faster on paper but in reality, you'll not notice the difference. Both are quick, reliable drives and the F3 used to be slightly cheaper (before the current HDD situation) which is why i bought one and i haven't been disappointed :D

I prefer the F3 since it's cheaper, reliable and the speed difference is negligible for the average consumer.

The F3 is faster than the Black for read/write but the black is faster on access times and burst rate (twice the buffer). I posted some comparisons from HDTune on a Steam thread a little while back.
The F3 makes a better storage drive, as it is noticeably faster with large transfers.
The Black makes a better OS drive with snappier access and burst rate it boots quite a bit quicker.
Both great drives IMO, you can't make a 'wrong' choice.
