View Full Version : Champion Unit attack power?

In multiplayer, I've seen the opponent's champion unit attack power jump up to 150 right before they attack.
I know linking with units of the same color increases attack power, but should it really jump from 70 or 90 to 150?

It could be because of an artefact ( UD = 75% more powerful or with Varkas : 30% more ) Anyway with 3 or 4 links I think you can jump to 150.

With red's pitlord or yellow's phoenix, it only takes 2 links to push a champion to 150 damage. The phoenix gets even higher than 150 because the bonus is based on the damage of the links and yellow's gremlins get up to 14 damage vs. red's 9 for the hell hounds.
for me, I try not to play against these match ups unless I have the same fire power. fight fire with fire as they say...

I think these are the 2 I've seen with devastating results. Even worse, it seems like the link bonus is based on maximum attack power not current attack power. Sometimes I've knocked their attack power down to 40 or 50 and it seems like they still get a +50 jump at the end.
Sylvan walls can sometimes block these, but I think it's time to try your strategy of sticking with equal heroes :)

Yep, does not matter. If anything, it would be damage to the links that would reduce the bonus to the champion.
For me, I do red or yellow v. red. Usually red because the extra move artifact is so powerful.
Against yellow, I like undead with cursed shield and dragons, because it counters the circlet but you may not be using artifacts.
From my experience when you pick a six turn champion faction like white or undead vs. an opponent who has quick champions, it is a very uphill battle...for every champion he starts he gains at least one round on you. And as you've noticed, links can make a huge difference, so whoever attacks first has a distinct advantage that only gets worse when you give away extra rounds by having slow charging champions.

I did the calculations awhile ago, and I believe this is the way it works:
Core units give everything linked to them a 15% bonus to attack power.
Elite units give everything linked to them a 35% bonus to attack power.
Champions give everything linked to them a 50 (or maybe 55)% bonus to attack power. Links are cumulative so they are added together (not multiplied), then applied to each unit's CURRENT attack power when launched.
Please note that a unit's link bonus does not affect itself, and fused units do not give or receive double bonuses. Nightmares have a weird mechanic which allows them to receive a link bonus while launching without the units they are linked to, if they are part of a chain.
Hope this clears things up.
