up to the level "the silent riddler" the game was running absolutely flawless, but in this level it's crashing like crazy, always with the same error message: not enough memory.

i managed to get through the level by quicksaving often.
the next levels were ok, no crashing there, but somewhat later this exact same crash appeared again.

You could really do with using 64 bit Windows on a system with a 2GB graphics card. I think you wouldn't have run out of memory using 64 bit. How much system RAM do you have?

yes, i think so too. will switch to 7 x64 eventually, just don't know when.. takes time to set up and reinstall everything.
i got already 16GB of RAM installed in preparation of going x64 :)

i will send you a savegame, as soon as i find one where the crash happens shortly after loading it.
right now i'm desperately trying to beat the game. i assume i'm at the final boss but it's so freaking hard, can't survive even on tourist! :(

Can you please set texture quality to "lowest" and see if that eliminates "out of memory" error?

also, what's the size of your swapfile? maybe there's not enough memory for the whole system... :/

i now have a savegame where i just need to run forward and after 10-20 seconds this error appears everytime. but i can't attach any files in PMs.

my swapfile is set to "system managed", no fixed size.
which setting do you mean exactly? i didn't find a "texture quality" setting in the options..

what i tested just now, is increasing the virtual address space available to programs (bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2560) and now, no more crashes.
i just don't know, if that has any undesired side effects..

While my game does not crash, I cannot load this same level. It all works fine up until this level, and no matter if I use my quicksave right after the bossfight, or a autosave there, or choose it from the menu at startup the game just can't seem to load the silent ridler level. It loads fine, or so it seems, but when I click "Continue" it says "saving game" and nothing happens. It just keeps sitting at "Saving game..." with the swirly thing for ... I guess ever. It never took longer than no time previously, I have a Corsair F120 SSD so disc speed shouldn't come into play here, and I run out of patience after a minute or so.

I can hit escape and get the menu just fine, navigate around too, no problem. Stop game, exit normally, no crash, but I just can't get past "Saving game". :( wtb fix.

System is Win7 64 bit, with latest updates, AMD X4 965, 8gb RAM, Radeon HD5870 with latest 11.11a catalyst drivers, and AMD chipset motherboard with latest drivers, Asus Xonar D2X with latest driver. Running at 2560x1400. Everything is stock clocked. Using Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus. Plenty of space on C:.

See this part:

This means that that file on your disk is damaged. Verify game cache should fix this.

Edit: this was for almondman. Which is unrelated to the problem above.

There were problems with 2 files failed verification :| downloading them again now, thank you for the quick response :) hope it works! Game is great fun so far :D

Sooo... Anyone else looking at this and thinking this could be the issue?

I might be wrong but the system appears to be reporting more video memory is available than actually exists. Out of memory due to there actually being less than expected.

Are you using any custom/modified drivers?

could be that this is the reason for the "out of memory" crashes on my system configuration (2GB graphics card on x86 windows), but it's perfectly normal for windows to have much for space available for textures, than the amount of RAM installed on the graphics card (i have a secondary PC with a GTX460 768MB card and there dxdiag reports over 4GB of available memory for textures).
i have never used any modified drivers, right now catalyst 11.11a is installed.
but like i said, with the user address space tweak the game runs without any crashes, so i'm happy for now.

Hmm, just had a look through my sam3.log file and I am seeing lines like this.

So you are running out of system memory with...

rather than graphics card memory.

what i tested just now, is increasing the virtual address space available to programs (bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2560) and now, no more crashes.
i just don't know, if that has any undesired side effects..

This is good, and very very advanced fix. We usually don't recommend doing this, since it might interfere with other software/games you use on this system. However, if there are no consequences, then yes, this IS a way to go! :)
