As someone who never played it before until I got it on Steam, I can honestly say that this is possibly the dumbest complaint I have ever heard.

Not if you heard and played the game before it came on Steam as the original freeware indie title.

Herpderp hypocrisy.

I want my flying toaster... lunchbox... soap bar.. whatever he is to yell "HUZZAH" and not "Oh yeah!"

Balrog saying "Oh yeah!" is like Naruto saying "Believe it!"

It IS a dumb complaint, and yet, it did stop me from getting the Wii version. Well, that and the issues with the sound being messed up, too.

That being said, it did not stop me from picking up the PC version as soon as I saw it was out. Because there are enough improvements over the original for me to justify the whopping £5 it cost me to buy the game.

This character said "urgh" instead of "ouch" totally not paying $5 for this game I claim to love. I mean the reason I played it was for that classic "ouch" line. Everyone remembers it, it made the game worth it.

This is what it sounds like to me. And I played through the whole thing, loved it, but I don't give two ♥♥♥♥s if Balrog says either line, it doesn't change a damn thing.

Still reminds me of DeceasedCrab when he says "Huzzah!"

And DC is a giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The original poster seems to be a bit wrong, too, claiming it's "Huzzah!" and "Grassland".

The original is Grasstown, you know. Not that I care, but since you seem to...

You sit there and count every time Naruto says "Believe it!". I dare you. Every episode. Right now.

Nobody likes it when people politically correct a translation.

Yeah I was all ready for the first encounter with Balrog I was preemptively saying 'Huzzah!' before it appeared and then I got the fail 'oh yeeeeeah' like he's the macho man.

Datebayo or however you would spell it in English characters. Same damn thing. Besides, I always thought Naruto was supposed to be annoying, regardless of it being original Japanese anime, manga, English, whatever. And "Oh yeah!" said once isn't the same thing. The Naruto dub he says "Believe it!" all the damn time. It's apples and oranges. They are both fruit, that's about it for similarities.

I think it's more in regards to the Kool-Aid man. I mean, I still enjoy the game just as much, but the " OH YEAH!" instead of " HUZZAH! " kind of brought me down a bit :(

Funfact: Huzzah!! was the fan-translation.

Oh Yeah is the real translation.

THE MORE YOU KNOW.

I liked the change to "Oh Yeah!" It does remind me of the Kool-aid man making his unexpected entrance by busting through the wall, much like Balrog does.

However, the change from Grass Town to Bushlands is sacrilege.

I honestly don't care all that much. Did I like Huzzah? Sure, but does "Oh yeah!" make the game un-fun or a worse platformer/metroidvania/whatever? Absolutely not.

Yeah, and him following everything he said with "dattebayo" would have made a SUPERIOR dub. Face it, sometimes there is no way to win. You pick a route and you go. It was either say SOMETHING that meant nothing and yet was acceptable, or leave out the fact that, essentially, Naruto's speech pattern followed everything he said with "DERP", thus invalidating and breaking a distinguishing characteristic of the main protagonist.

Or maybe they should have just said "DERP".

Played both translations, and they aren't that different really, just different way to say the same thing.
However some minor details where oculted by the fan-translation one, probabbly was to play safe in some matters, for example this translation gives the sensation that this isn't the first time Kazuma were on the island.

I don't know how the steam client reacts to it and i didn't tried it yet, but the text files in this version are the same thing as the original, they located in /data/base/stage you can replace them with the original one and tada, fan-traslation!
If Steam doesn't like it, you can use the translation as a "mod" in the challenge menu.

There are a couple story-affecting differences. Probably the biggest that I found was that Balrog calls Jenka "auntie", implying a couple of things if you know the backstory from the good ending. But, I don't know what was originally intended. It seems more likely though that the original fan translators would have picked up on him calling her "auntie" if it was there to begin with.

Edit - Also:

Original translation as a mod (http://www.cavestory.org/forums/showthread.php?p=145417)

Or, if you want to replace the new translation entirely, you can download the fan translated version of Cave Story, back up steamapps\common\cave story+\data\base\Stage, and replace its contents with the data\Stage folder of the fan translation. This is redonkulous. People refusing to buy a game because the OFFICIAL translation doesn't match up with a fanmade translation? It boggles the mind o_O;

It's not something that would ever prevent me from buying the game, but it just goes to show how well loved the fan made translation is.

Be also aware that this is a copy-paste from the original, there are some artifacts such as "=" (witch are meant to be painted circles) indicators for items, i hope someone cleans it up and format it for use on the plus version.

Also if you use it as a mod, it uses the saves from Curly Mode, so probably backing up the base files and replace them with it it's the best way to play it.
