I played up through going underground to chase the ninjas. I start the game up this morning, and get a "not signed into a gamer profile" message. I've never seen this before, and till now, I've been automatically logged into GFWL (at least every time since the initial keycode entry). I manually sign in and ensure my GFWL status is "online". I can see my achievements and game ownership via my GFWL profile, but AC continues to insist I'm not signed into a gamer profile. The only way past this prompt is to say "no," not sign into a profile, and have NO save data.
I searched my hard drive and found an empty SaveData folder at [User]\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City\SaveData, though I understand this is normally empty. Where the heck is my save data, then?
This issue needs to be patched immediately.

The exact same thing just happened to me. I haven't seen the "no profile" message yet, but the game autosaved just after fighting the 3 assassins. I quit to tweak some graphics options, went back in and it says my progress is 0% and I only have an option to start a new game. Going to check the official forums. Grrr....

Did a bit of research. This also happened to people on the 360:

This happened to me but because I was not far into the game, I just restarted. After I exited and started up for play the next day, my old save reappeared. Some how I went from losing my save, starting again, losing the progress of my restart to having what was lost reappear.
I think this happens when you play offline and then go online. Maybe it is a new feature of GFWL.

Yeah, I figured that out after some more research. Didn't really help diagnose the problem. There's only one file there, no other .sgd files on my computer. I copied that one to my desktop, deleted the original, restarted steam, the cloud didn't resync or anything. Ran the game with no save file...of course had to start over (restart over??). Copied the original back over, it is still just my 0% save that started the whole problem. I dunno if it was a Steam Cloud problem or what, but I've got Mozy backing up the right save file now. Still...shouldn't have to worry about stuff like this.

Hey everybody,
I to was having an issue like this (I purchased Arkham City through Steam). I had beat the game, and then was running around doing left over quests/etc. I came back to the game and even though Games For Windows Live would allow me to sign in and was showing me as being signed in, Arkham City would tell me that I wasn't signed into a gamer profile. Thus I was not able to continue my games from where they left off. I searched high and low for any info on this. Then I found out that the locations on your drive where the game looks for save games can be 1 of 2 places.
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City\SaveData
..\steam\userdata\19033869\57400\remote
I noticed that only one path contained my save file (the steam one). I took a random guess and copied my save data file from my steam savedata folder to the user documents folder and relaunched the game. Everything worked great after that. I'm not sure if both files are used or if still only one is (for actual saving), as I haven't looked into it deeply.
I can only speculate endlessly about what caused this and why it's happening. However, this has worked for me and I hope it helps some other people out there too.

Tried to copy save file from 57400\remote to \SaveData (which was empty). No result.
Then I tried to delete the \remote file and only have a file in \SaveData, gave a "corrupt save" in first save slot, as opposed to all slots empty, but can't use that for anything.
So in conclusion, I've lost a 80% save. I was actually planning to give the, ..gentlemen, over at Rocksteady money for a batman beyond skin, and play the game again. But that is looking less likely now, isn't it.
This annoys me, Rocksteady. This annoys me quite a lot indeed.

Same thing just happened me  Now I can't even play the game as Steam keeps requesting a product key for it.
This has got to be the worst game ever for problems!
