I'm a hunter, but how do I get a bow? There are some things that I just don't understand about this game. You get quests and it doesn't show you on the map where to go.. What am I doing wrong.. I usually play fps and rts's,but wanted to try and rpg. I tried dragon age also and just couldn't figure it out. grrr

I think the first bow you can obtain is after talking to Morgana. If you didn't care for Dragon Age and not really knowing what to do then it might just take some getting use to RPG's or they may not be your thing. Some RPG's will have quest markers like Oblivion, Fallout 3, or even quest trail like Fable 3. Although many RPG fans don't like the quest markers. I would say pay attention to what the quest might have for clues where to go. Other than that just explore areas and have fun. Also you could get some sort of walk through or search online or ask if having trouble in specific area.

Unfortunately you picked an RPG that really doesn't have too much hand-holding in it, I know because I just bought it as well during the sale the other day. In my case though, this game is supremely awesome so far, specifically because it lacks any hand holding.
If you check your logbook by hitting L, it will show you each of your quests. Just follow the hints it gives for where to go. If you need more than that, re-read your dialogue. The game gives you the lines of every single dialogue you had in another of the tabs on the screen when you hit L.
This isn't as open-world as say Two Worlds is in that the entire world isn't open to you right from the start (as far as I can tell), but you choose what quests to go after when you want to. It's not going to tell you. For instance, before I even left the first little town (not the training town, the first real one), I'd already hit like level 5 or 6 just from RPG'ing through dialogue and mindreading. I've hit the world map now and am just wandering around killing and looting. I've solved like five or six quests, but haven't gone to turn them in since I'm just running around right now.
I guess the easy way to put it is you're supposed to feel sort of lost in this game since you're supposed to explore the knooks and crannies of the world.
Hope that helps. Just buy a bow from one of the vendors. The game doesn't sort the weapons for you so you'll have to mouse over each item until you find one that's a bow.

I might be wrong but I think you are playing the second campaign (Flames of Vengeance). You should start a new game in Ego Draconis.

When in the starting village and you choose the "hunter" type character, you should get a bow. I had no weapons. When I chose the way of the "fighter" a sword suddenly appeared.
