I bought black edition on steam recently and I've downloaded PK++ 1.3 and the 1.3 update.

Should I install directly to the painkiller black edition folder, or one of the folders inside of it?

Also will my saved games still work after installing?

What are you talking about OP? Are you trying to manually patch a Steam game with retail patches? If so, Why?

The version number for the Steam game and the version for the fully updated retail should be the same, so I don't see any issues with saves being compatible.

OP: I don't know...:o Now isn't that embarrassing. I guess the word update is what threw me.

Is there no readme file for the game?

Hey Stywoo,

It is confusing to setup, but I'll do my best to help! \ :D /

The main problem with the PK++ installs, is that it doesn't create proper shortcuts. It just creates an EXE file that says "pkplus1.3" or whatever, I forget. ;p But it does install the proper files into your PK directory.

There are two ways to go about booting up PK++:

1) This is the best way, as it enables you to easily launch both PK++ and your vanilla PK install without having to rename files.

Create a new shortcut to Painkiller.exe
If you created the shortcut in Steam, using the "Add Non-Steam Game" this is much easier
Right click on the shortcut inside of your Steam games menu and click "Properties"
You will see a text input field labeled "Target"
Inside of "Target" you will see the path to the Painkiller.exe
The "Target" field should say something like "H:\Games\Steam\steamapps\email@email.com\Painkille r\Bin\Painkiller.exe"
At the end of the target field, you should add the following:
"H:\Games\Steam\steamapps\email@email.com\Painkille r\Bin\Painkiller.exe" -lscripts PKPlus.pak note the space between the quotation mark( " ) and the dash( - )
Now you can just click on that shortcut to start up PK++ separate from your vanilla PK install.

2)This is if you really have no plans of playing SP Painkiller( WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?! ) or if you don't mind rename files to swap between PK++ and vanilla PK.

Find your Painkiller install directory
You should see two files there, "Bin" and "Data"
Navigate to the "Data" folder
Rename LScripts.pak to LScripts_old.pak
LScripts.pak is the main game scripts, that is why we keep a backup of it :D
Make a copy of PKPlus.pak
Rename PKPlus.pak to LScripts.pak
Launch your Painkiller.exe through Steam or however you do it
Good to go :D Just rename those files back to their original names( LScripts_old.pak to LScripts.pak to get your vanilla install back )

When you start up PK++, your game menu should look like this: http://imgur.com/43vIg If it doesn't, then you either did one of the above incorrectly or PK++ is not installed into the correct directory.

This shouldn't affect your SP saves.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Thresher.

If anyone is wondering, do not install PK++ to the Bin folder. That was what I did the first time and I didn't work.

You only need to install it in your main Painkiller folder.
