View Full Version : APB Reloaded and GamersFirst has poor customer service.

I don't recommend anyone playing this game. Gamersfirst and Punkbuster indiscriminitly bans accounts.
I had loaded the game to try it out through the Steam service. When I couldn't log in with Steam, I went ahead and created a GamersFirst account.
After my computer was forcibly rebooted due to the install of Punkbuster the only services running were those at startup. Just after a few minutes of loading in and creating a character my account got blocked due to Punkbuster.
When I attempted to contact Gamersfirst customer service, NO ASSISTANCE or an EXPLANTION was provided to me about why I got banned or if there was even a solution to my problem. I only recieved a canned response and was provided a link to their "WALL of SHAME".
I have never been so upset and angry that they don't even take the time to assist with a false banning.
I recommend that no installs this game or supports GamersFirst as they care nothing for thier customers.

Well from what I know; the wall of shame is for cheaters/aim botters. Are you sure you didn't have anything running in the background? Also try contacting Evenbalance/Punkbuster and see what they say.

The only services I run at startup are to assist with system performance. The only thing that I can think of that might be considered a cheat or hack is my husband and I are on the same network and we were both playing at the same time.
Regardless, no assistance was provided to me by customer support and the only link provided to check out was to their wall of shame. As I did not cheat or hack, this was in poor taste in my opinion.
Any subsequent attempt to contact them in regards to the situation is auto-blocked and closed.
I have already filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau.

you must have been running some program that is blacklisted by pb, nobody just gets banned for nothing, though there are false positives that are later reversed, but for the most part if you get banned you have done something against the rules.
btw.. did you make a throwaway account just to complain here? i find that strange..

Considering he just said "blocked", for all we know it could simply be that Punkbuster is out of date or some other issue is preventing PB from running. Either way, other issues could include someone on your network or your machine cheated in APB in the past, or you were running a blacklisted tool. (Blockify was a known violator of this, though it has since been sorted as far as I know.)

On the OP subject line point of 'Poor customer service', the OP is correct. As an experianced player both RTW and G1's customer services is a joke unless you like extremely long turnaround times and precanned responses that don't at all address your issues. Unless your issue is one in which you're having problems paying G1 to buy their items, they're not going to help you with ♥♥♥♥. You're better off posting a locked thread in the G1 forums because at least some of the actual developers might see it. Their customer support is whack.

Steam user forums won't allow you to login using your steam username. Did you think maybe they might not have used the forums before and therefore had no option but to create a new account in order to make this thread...?

In my opinion there should've been some warning flag stating that you are running XYZ program which is in violation. I have no idea anything I'm running is giving me an edge in any game. I've played many MMO's for years and never had a problem.
And no this isn't a throw away account. Yes this is my first time posting, I don't usually deal with the drama of forums but I don't want others to get burned like I was.

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. Anticheat measures were laid down heavily in the past month or so, and the admins told us that it's risky to even have on our computer cheats for other games, let alone macros. I don't know what caused your situation, but I would contact support again and not give up. This is a good game, you seem like a good person and you deserve to be playing it.

There is def an issue with false bans. It's being "looked into"....although that was the case several months ago, as well.

Yeah, like I just posted in another thread I was banned in the chillout district making a tattoo for my enforcer character completely out of the blue. I somehow made it through the entire tutorial district without so much as a hitch, (after hours of bull♥♥♥♥ from the servers coming on/offline, account issues/steam issues) but when I go into the one place that you can't even cheat in I get hammered with some falseflag "bad program" bullcrap?
I'm afraid I'll just get wall of shamed without so much as a discussion of what the program was.
So much for preordering the original, dealing with no compensation then getting buttrammed by the new boys on the block, whilst just trying to play a the damn game. I thought the worst part would be never seeing my old character again... nope

No, if you got an outdated PB version, you get error code xyz, not blocked.
Also, cheats from other games count as well, so tough luck.
You probably cheated in another game, and PB bans you for that, and you can call it unfair as much as you want, once a cheater, always a cheater.

What are you talking about? Not everyone cheats in mmo's or even general multiplayer games. Some people get trainers for offline/singleplayer games. Not only is it unlikely to be counted by PB but it shouldn't. If you're not cheating in a game that's running, it's none of PB's business. I personally, have never cheated in APB. Neither in the beta, the retail, nor in the reboot.

Cheats that are detected by PB will get you flagged, trainers and singleplayer stuff wont get you flagged.
And Im all for banning ppl that have cheated in other games such as CS/COD etc.
Cheaters will cheat again, there was a guy playing on RTW APB, he was always "jumpy" in terms of being legit.
In return after RTW shut down, he had made 3 new Steam accounts cause he got banned on MW2 so often.
He also quit "APBR" because hes so famous on Brink(as if brink ever started trough).
Havent seen him since, and with brinks fate, I doubt that he's still playin it.

Yeah, same cut and dry response as the others. I try to provide as much information as I can to solve a problem and they think they're somehow never wrong. Really sucks they're just randomly banning like that, but hey, if they want to destroy their loyal user base. (And I just found out about old character migration too.) Oh well.

Thank you! I'd like to add that I believe it's false positive because I
wasn't banned until after I had completed the tutorial district. And,
my game was getting minimized with tiny error boxes that would
disappear before they could be read. OH, also I had steam overlay open,
I was using it to bring up picture reference on my tattoo (polycount.)
I believe that may have annoyed punkbuster.

Original message
I think I posted this, but it was in the community area.
Don't take any frustration to heart, I'm a bit upset at these events.
-----
I've been "banned" for "disapproved application" I have no idea where to get this undone, as I've never cheated in this game. I just got out of tutorial district, after an hour or so of trouble shooting finally getting the game running (disallowing steam accounts/server going down). I was in the chillout district or whatever, and was designing a tattoo to put on my character when my account was "blocked."
I preordered this game, and bought it when it first came out. I never got compensated for the immediate close of the studio and the termination of that game. You can see how many hours
(hopefully) that I played with no accusation of hacking.
This is probably a Punkbuster false positive, it's a very bad program. I'm hoping this can be resolved, and will be sorely frustrated if you're really just banning players out of the blue.
I don't know how punkbuster works, but the programs I had open were: (Chrome,Winrar,Steam,Dropbox,Daemontools,Avast, and Whatpulse).[/QUOTE

Sounds like they don't want customers to me, if there's a large number of people getting banned in the first 15 minutes of playing the game and they're unwilling to investigate the possibility of errors.

In my opinion, this whole punkbuster thing is garbage. To me, it just looks like the developers don't want to deal with hackers themselves, so they leave it to the computer to be the judge, jury, and executioner.
To make matters worse, you are forced to install this punkbuster thing onto your computer, giving it access to everything on your computer... As was said earlier in the thread, if you have any hacks on your computer for any game, you get banned. I don't have any cheats for any games myself, but I feel like something like that is an invasion of privacy. It is like if the police have a warrant to search your house, but use that warrant to search the entire block. As if that isn't enough, if the officers happen to find something, they toss you in jail and proceed to sentence you to life imprisonment.
TL;DR version: punkbuster is nowhere near perfect and the developers rely on it far too heavily.

See, but it's the last part that the company needs to man up on. After they toss you into their "cheaters" jail, they put you on the "Wall of Shame," and no joke, staff members call you a "do.uch.e" bag.
Just seems childish. You use a bad system, ok, that's great, but then know when to use humans when someone feels you are in err. It's OK to admit you're wrong sometimes. They want to declare this "war on hackers" with the wall of shame, taunting hacker sites, and banning anyone who has a program that injects code into a running game within 500 miles of punkbuster.
Anyone who gets caught in their crossfire? Collateral damage.
It's a really horrible way to run a player made business.
No one is asking them to look the other way, but I'm staring at my preorder keys, and really wishing they'd at least have a discussion with an original player who was never banned. Doesn't it seem... odd?

Well if only VAC was usable on other non-valve games, It will be better sense VAC only bans people when it detects hacks than falsely banning people for nothing and VAC is automatic
But if i was banned in APB for no reasion or such, They can't get me on steam.

This just happened to me. I played the game for a few mins and I kept on getting disconnected by PunkBuster with different pop up errors about the server and then about certain drivers. I followed what an admin posted as a fix on their official forums and when I tried to log in I got another pop up notification that I was banned. I don't have any cheats for any of my games. I've played many games using VAC and have never been banned from anything. I hate, let me repeat this, HATE cheaters, and to be labeled as one by APB Reloaded angers me to no end.
I was actually enjoying the game for the little that I played it but it doesn't matter since their customer service told me that I am permanently banned and I can't even contact them. I just wanted to know what exactly got me banned. I mean, if I have an application that is going to keep me from playing any future games I want to know but I guess I'll never know what got me banned from APB:R.

The same exact thing happened to me! I kept getting kicked, manually downloaded a patch, and boom error 10008. Punkbuster is overly protective when it comes to APB. Anything from a trainer for another game to blockify can make it go haywire.
Your best bet is to plead your case to a moderator, but even then , they might just redirect you to the support, which tells you to go fluff yourself. They really seem to be disillusioned with their banning system.

I'll try but I was looking at their forums and they also ban your ip. So I can't even start a new account even if I wanted to. They stated that if your little brother has a hack on his account then your account will get banned to even if you never cheated since you are in the same network. It's only me and my wife and she doesn't play games so I still have no clue what I have that got me banned.
I'll try to talk to a mod but I don't think anything is going to help. They really don't care if you were trying to cheat or not. If PunkBuster said you were in any game not just APB:R you will get banned even a single player game. PunkBuster checks all your applications in your whole computer not just your APB:R files.
I don't even like strategy guides cause I consider that cheating. Seriously, I don't know what could of caused my ban.

You can post on their forums even though you're blocked. The same ingame account can be used. If you don't even have trainers, I would really think that with enough yelling you'll get re-evaluated. But yeah, punkbuster checks EVERYTHING. Anything that it remotely doesn't like will get you banned.

With a free to play game, there are a lot of accounts coming and going all over the place which tends to cause support to back up more. I could only suggest getting involved in the community. G1 tends to sometimes have a couple of people who have a bit more willingness to mingle with the crowd, sort of speak.
I know that's easier said than done getting involved when you're having account issues, but there's not much else to do other than attempting self-troubleshooting (in which Google is your best friend).

I PM'd a dev on their official forums and no reply after he read it 8 hours ago. I also got a hold of a dev on this forum only to be "transferred" to PunkBunter to deal with them. No way! If they can't deal with the people they hire to secure their game then why the heck should I.
Customer service just keeps sending me their generic "you are a cheater" email after I try to contact them and it seems they don't care about getting new business.
This is a lot of crap to go through just to try to play a game. For anyone getting ready to spend countless hours and cash on this be really careful what you have on your system now and the future cause it can get you banned. Like I said, I don't cheat. I play all sorts of games online, including TF2, and have never gotten banned.
I used to play APB:R (for 5 mins anyways) but then I took a falsely ban to the knee.

Here's another player you can add to the list of those wrongfully banned as a "cheater". I asked about it, got the same idiotic stock message, and all further inquires were automatically closed. If I didn't like the game I wouldn't have cared, but I was actually having a lot of fun in it. Some of you indicated that you were able to get some support by directly PMing someone and I would appreciate it if you could message me with their name so I could see if I can get my account reinstated or at least figure out what program triggered it. What kind of authority do you have here? I noticed your "Word of Warning" post also, when my colleague challenged you about which office you worked in you did not reply.
When I asked you via PM (after you contacted me) who you were, you did not reply.
It appears that you have a vendetta against APB:R since you have a sore past with a member of staff or something? Anyway, I'm confused about your authoritarian stance and general hatred towards our game.
Word of advice, do not send "RpTheHotrod" any character details.

This thread is out of control, Why on earth would we want to upset our customers?
The linked thread on our forum was our community responding to a massive ban wave, it was a great day for APB:R, and all the people banned that day were cheating. We caught them with 100% certainty.
I very rarely un-ban people from APB:R as very rarely do we incorrectly suspend accounts. However, there are cases that we have removed the ban for individuals.
If you have had your account suspended, and feel it was unjust, then feel free to PM me and we can take it from there.

Yes, I was challenged, and I showed exactly who I am to PowderKitten, and I did respond to your PM, so please do not spread misinformation here on the forums. Also, if I was anti-APB I wouldn't be here helping solve people's technical issues with the game so they can play. I also wouldn't be recommending people play the game but with a fair warning about the cheating issue. It's an honest opinion of the game and you seem to have a big issue about people having opinions about the game that don't make it look like a perfect product. It's not perfect. It has potential to be nearly perfect, but it's not quite there.

For a former dev its surprising how much couth you lack. Which may indicate why you are a former employee of said company, instead of currently employed with them in such game that you are so eagerly concerned about that you must "warn" people.
Just because you attempt to solve a few technical issues, does not put you ahead of the curve. Anyone can do that in an attempt to make their bias opinions more valid.
Your PR spin is failed. Sir.

I'm not there because I left. I think you're skimming posts instead of reading. Why are you so angry? No PR spin necessary. It's a good game with good custom features for visuals on your character and vehicle. It just has an issue with hacking, albeit less then before but it's still there.

Best.
Intent or no, the anti-cheat system seems to be upsetting a lot of people and needs to be seriously looked into. Punkbuster is a very questionable program to many people and you (the developer) should be more wary of what information it is feeding you. You have a responsibility to your customers to provide a usable product and, no matter how bad the cheating is, you should not be punishing the innocent to get to the guilty.
I'm sure some of the voices are cheaters who are angry that they were caught, but at the same time I'm sure that not everyone is. Also, telling someone to follow a link for more details, and having the link be simply to a list of banned characters is insulting and in poor taste. I would consider adding a link to a helpful post or removing that sentence from the message completely. PM will be sent shortly with my details.

I'm far from angry.

And our opinion is you're another one of G1's ♥♥♥ kissing fanboys who is constantly defending them because they can do no wrong. Prolly one of those fools on the G1 forums, why don't you go back there where you all can have an ♥♥♥ kiss fest.

I have no history of ♥♥♥ kissing for any developer, or publisher.
I am not even aware of this Hammer Legion, nor a member of such.
I do fancy the G1 forums, be it was the one location to discuss things until Steam jumped in with theirs. Now I fancy both.
Would you like my name on the G1 forums so you can search all my threads to confirm I am not a "fanboi" ♥♥♥ kisser? Or would you like to continue assuming more fantastic failures?
Just because a small minority of whiners are unhappy with the results of the game, and the company behind it.
Does not mean we all are.

You know what really is amusing. The fact I've played more MMO's then the majority of peoples ages here, but its the same old fecal matter with every one.
Their support sucks, the community sucks, people hack, this is OP, I can't win so I'm going to cry like a female dog....

You're doing great. Keep on posting - i'm quite sure you'll get some goodies from both the "mod squad" and admins @ g$ forums like free copy of a tacttical pack, some extra coins or even a free copy of a brand new skateboaard accessory. g$ developers love their pooches barking at other people.

I've only been banned once by punkbuster(in BF2 for jihad-jeep-ing 10 players on MY team) and I truly deserved it (though it was so fun).
I completely understand why players would be disgurntled with poor service or correspondence to accounts of account bans.
However, I have sent private messages to G1 staff on these forums and have gotten prompt replies to all messages. Their service (to me anyway) has been better than most other devs.
Hope your issue is resolved (and I'm not banned too XD).

Oh man really!? Now that sounds like plan! I've always wanted to be a e-skater, can you teach me to ollie?
Wait, didn't we already get free tactical items for trying out the fight club beta. Having access due to being premium...though I survey my points, instead of spending money....
Yea guys try that out! cause it'll make you love G1 even moars! And omgz this game is amazing, my fanboi meter is baout explodz!

I have finally been unbanned, this is after a month or more of posting on forums searching my computer for anything that might have triggered it countless support tickets to G1 and evenbalance but I got there in the end.
It just feels so good to know that there is hope for others banned unfairly.

I don't actually know the full details but it seems that one of my characters had some "suspicious activity" on it I don't know what kind and I probably wouldn't say if I did because it might mean an actual hacker could get away with something.
I have never cheated in any game and it just feels so good to be vindicated finally.
I just hope I never have to go through this experience again.

I have to comment on this post because it confused me 3 ways. First, what the heck does "...more MMO's then the majority of peoples ages here" mean? Huh? That sentence didn't make sense. Secondly I'm not even sure if you are slamming all the games, or all the comments people make about the games. Third and most important, how on earth can you assume you have played more MMO's than ANYONE? You don't know what others have played, all you know is what you have played with yourself. I have been playing MMO's since they were text based. And speaking of that, the text based Dragonrealms in one of the games I missed most and would return to in a heart beat if a. I could use my old interface, b. The price were not still outrageous for a premium account (last time I checked) and c. the got rid of the teaching/learnign skill requirements.
Now, why did I waste this time replying to a nobody? bored I guess.

It's way better to tell your experience on there own forum on APB:
Bad customer support discussion topic (http://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/237260-worst-costumor-service/)
I started a discussion, feel free to join, but keep it clean, i want it to be open for a long time :)
even the mods already replied, i lold at the statement a moderator made on there :
As far as I am concerned, G1 support pwns EA.
Just a dumb / sad defensive statement..

If you really do want to help people, then you have to realize two main things. The first thing is, it's going to eat up all your time and sanity. The second is you actually have to let people know they have someone to talk to about this. This is why you have support. So everyone who has an ambiguous problem doesn't have to come to you. People need to be able to contact your support staff and except competent discourse instead of a cut and paste "You're boned, kid" response. Which if you look around the steam forums as well as your apb G1 forums you'll see is what is happening to a lot of people.
You don't want to upset your customers, but you don't want to actually help them. You have this mentality that you're 100% accurate with no ability to be incorrect as well as being entertainers as you feed accused and punished hackers to your community. You flaunt your banlists and walls of shame while promoting a feeling that hackers are everywhere. It's some creepy internet rendition of American McCarthyism.
And even besides your support team, the staff is completely complacent if not aggressively ignorant on many issues. They close threads where people need help and redirect them to staff that cut and pastes messages. They don't answer private messages, and they engage frivolous debates with users on their forums, and provide the role model for the trolling that goes on when someone has been accused of hacking. They perpetrate this "once a hacker, always a hacker" mentality that shuts out all door for any genuinely confused user to use to talk to someone. Isolate and conquer seems to be the strategy with accused all across this games message boards.
We understand you want to look inviting in light of this thread, and as such you're opening yourself up to be contacted. But honestly, we just need your support team to be able to do that. If they don't have the ability to support, or contact a developer when they're unsure they don't have an actual ability to support. You don't need to waste your time checking through bans, just make sure that you reconstruct your community, or at least get on your moderators and devs to be civil, intelligent, and to act their age.

We can't always rely anybody from California, that's for sure. I was a resident back in Lake Forest, but the cost of living suck. The town became a tourist trap after rebuilding the El Toro Road marketplace. No offense, it's just San Francisco that is fine and dandy while the beaches are cool too. Managing the business in California can screw up our ego. Whether we're like Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg or Bobby Kotick, we can't do something like that anymore.
G1 is fail and even though they're from California, I like to take it over, then I'll take over EA next. $60 for Battlefield 3? I'd put the lawlz in the lawlzmachine. Expect Bill Gates too, but there isn't better to play games other than the PC. He's the reason why his company approved any game developers for his OS. Just keep it in mind, you can't always rely on anybody in any industry. Not just even anybody from Cali either. I just have a very bad experience with this game. It's no GTA IV or Red Dead Redemption, but it's much worse than playing Mafia II.

not only is the game support poor, the game is VERY LAGGY, high requirements. No wonder its not popular. Don't bother.
You wanna have a challenging game hijacking cars? go play GTA
You wanna have a fun shootout, play a shooter game. it makes no sense to get exposed to hackers, lag, crappy team compositions simply to combine both POORLY.

It is broken as they designed it to be. Good thing we always get this for free, but the CEO of G1, Joshua Hong don't really get his audience. Neither David Jones get his. Leslie B. did better as I wanted.
