Anyone here play trumpet? I just went out and did some music with the choir of a local church (I don't go to church, my friend works there, though) and it was pretty fun. Someone even came to me and said she had to get me to play Taps for Memorial Day!

took trumpet playing lessons at my grade school, forgot to do homework one day and my teacher laughed in a stressed out maniacal cackle way. believe that was my last class.

Played for 7 years. Screwed up my embouchure by starting with braces on my teeth and learning with the wrong size mouthpiece for ages. Relearning to play correctly was going to be a major effort so I quit.

Well, I don't play trumpet myself, but being in a jazz band and playing bass, I can honestly say it's one of my favorite sounding instruments, at least in the brass section.

Negatory, it is the saxophone, mainly because you can do this:

I played it several years ago, at first I enjoyed it but then I started to decrease the time I spent playing until I eventually completely stopped.

Now, I play guitar :D

Played the Baritone Horn, which is definitely less cool. At least it wasn't the Tuba D:

20% cooler (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS6eSU6hlCc) than a Baritone Horn for sure.

Don't wanna pressure you or anything, but hope you know bringing back horn sections is resting on your guy's sholders.

Baritone horn? That's just a baritone, right? As in a mini tuba that plays what a Trombone plays?

Because if so, it's totally not less cool! Baritone all the way!

Yeah, that'd be it. Got stuck with all those silly tromboners. See what I did there?

Hehe, I did.

Baritone is awesome though. It has the manliness of the Tuba except unlike the Tuba, you're not playing notes so low that they're insignificant.

I played the trumpet early High School. Wanted to play the trombone but my arms were too short :(

I was a very small child.

I was a very small child.

That's the exact reason why I wasn't allowed to played the Tuba.

A paraphrased quote from my teacher: "We would have to drill a hole in the middle of your forehead just so you could reach the mouth piece."

Well, my opinion on the matter is that trumpet are the best and every other instrument is like grass. There's a lot of them, but they don't do much. In my school's band, it's trumpet has melody or plays nothing at all. I'm glad I'm in the superior section.

Don't you get tired of counting bars though?

64 bars of no playing was pretty common in the orchestras I used to play in.

I used to always laugh at the rare piece when the violinists had to stop playing and count some bars. They were so not used to it that they would ALWAYS mess it up.

I'm a trumpet player and have been playing since 6th grade.

I'm a college senior now.

I still love it!

I played the trumpet for 2+ years. I gave up because I was unable to play the high notes well. Even after lots of practice I just couldn't do it. My lips were just not designed for it I guess.

Personally, I don't understand the people who complain about things like this (every other top comment on a Yt video is about the people who disliked a video). In this one.. about half of 1% of the people clicked on thumbs down. For all we know, those people were drunk and hit the wrong button.

Very well.. Dizzy Gillespie - "Calidoscopico" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YbjR5rt2mw)

I definitely don't want to nor could play this. Never touched a wind instrument in my life.

Been playing the piano for 14 years. I have to disagree with you and say that the piano is in fact the best instrument ever.

I played piano for a very long time and I would .. almost agree with it. It's an incredible instrument, but I'd give it a tie with a guitar, in terms of applicability. The piano is better for serious music (classical or jazz), while the guitar is muchhhh better in more casual settings.

I... like piano but I'd have to disagree. The main problem with piano is its extraordinary lack of expressiveness. You can control dynamics and sustain, but pretty much nothing else. Compare it to something like guitar, where you can control dynamics, sustain, attack (pluck, hammer-on, pull-off, bend, slide), timbre (significantly) and vibrato. Wind instruments are another order of magnitude more expressive than guitar.

I will take small issue with what you said. I think the piano is an amazingly expressive instrument, but you do need to listen to it more carefully. Otherwise, it can appear to be a 'background' instrument at all times.
