Unable to initialize Steam.

Trying to run the game from within the Steam Client and get an error message:

"Unable to initialize Steam. Please start from Steam client."

Anyone else having this issue or know a workaround?
The only thing I've been able to find anywhere else on here is relating to old HL2 Dedicated Servers and none of those fixes seem to work. Pretty frustrating since I bought the game for myself and two of my friends and only one of us has been able to get it to run.

Had the same prob in the afternoon.
Defrag the game Chache and check all game data (right click on EDF in steam -->properties)

And very important: Uncheck the hook "synchronise with Cloud" (also in properties)


Then it worked again for me.

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately that doesn't seem to have fixed the issue for me. I'll just wait and see if I get a response from my ticket with Steam Support.

Reinstall in the meantime. Probably a bad thing happened to your main game executable causing it to ♥♥♥♥ itself when you try launching it, or at least that's what it looks like.

Yeah I figured it might have been a random install error but I've reinstalled like 4 times to no avail. I'll keep trying until I get a response from Steam.

Could just try reinstalling steam but that's highly unlikely to work.

And you are 100% sure you unchecked the box "Synchronizing with Steam Cloud" ?

(Just asking, cause I dont know wheather you are a noob-pc user or not :P )

Reinstalling Steam seems to have fixed it for now
